Edward LeRoy “Augie” Schneider passed away on May 4, 2022, surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorene F. Schneider, and a loving father and grandfather. He was born on February 26, 1928 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Adam and Marie (Schnell) Schneider.
He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946, and proudly served in the United States Army from 1950-52 while stationed in Germany.
Augie and Dorene were married on June 4, 1955. He worked 27 years at Leon’s Food Mart and retired from Weaver’s Potato Chips after 21 years. He was always positive, friendly, and helpful to everyone, whether he was at home, a grocery store or out in the community.
He was a longtime member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, Welfare Society and American Legion. He loved sports, model trains, anything Huskers, and played fast pitch softball in the Lincoln league for many years.
He is survived by his children, Debra (Thomas) Wilkinson, Monument, CO, Robert (Maria Elizabeth) Schneider, Leawood, KS, brother, Harry (Mary Ann) Schneider, Lincoln, NE, sisters, Edna (Everett) Thalhamer, Pueblo, CO and Dorothy Jensen, Tucson, AZ, sister-in-law Jan Schneider, Lincoln, and granddaughter Katherine Schneider, Shawnee, KS.
Augie is preceded in death by his wife, Dorene; brothers, Alvin (Evelyn) Schneider, Richard (Jean) Schneider and Leonard Schneider, sister in-law, Beverly Schneider; brother-in-law, Edward Jensen and nephew, Mark Thalhamer.
A public visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6700 South 14th Street, Lincoln. A public graveside service will be held at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery (enter at Gate 2) at 10:00 a.m. on the same day, with lunch to follow.
