

Eileen D. Strouf was born December 7, 1923 on a farm near Milford, Nebraska. She died on September 6, 2016 in Wilber, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Sophia Brchan Strouf; her husband, Donald; and a daughter, Janet Hajek. Eileen was baptized at the Sacred Heart Church in Crete. She was a member of Crete’s United Church of Christ. She worked at Fairmont Foods during World War II and graduated Crete High School in 1941. She married Donald Busboom October 24, 1943 and accompanied him to his duties at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonia, Texas. She worked in the post commissary and at the local Sears store. They returned to Crete in 1945 after her husband was discharged. Eileen was employed by Elgin Watch Company, by Formfit Rogers for more than 10 years, and the Crete Public Schools from 1983-2001. Eileen was a member and served as president of VFW 4959 auxiliary. She was a member of Crete Legion auxiliary and Formfit 10-Year Club. Eileen’s pride was her family. She and Don were thrilled to observe their 65th wedding anniversary with a family gathering in October, 2008. Her hobbies included card clubs and cooking but her favorite times were spent participating in many family gatherings. Survivors include her daughter Judy Elliott and her husband, Max of Fort Collins, Colorado, son-in-law, Albert Hajek of Crete, granddaughter Darcy Allshouse and her husband, Bill, grandsons Reid Elliott and his wife Meaghan all of Denver, Colorado, and Christopher Hajek and his wife Brittany of Crete, 6 great grandchildren, Jack and Emery Allshouse, Grant and Blake Elliott and Alex and Leah Hajek; 2 sisters, Norma Ripa of Wilber, Ruth Walker of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and many nephews and nieces. Memorials are in care of the family and will be designated for charitable donations. A memorial service is planned for later this fall. Cremation. No visitation.
