Erin Marie Schmit

Erin Marie Schmit was born March 6, 1976 in David City, Nebraska to Bruce and Marilyn (Svoboda) Schmit. She attended Bellwood Elementary School and David City High School. She received an Associates degree from Southeast Community College in Lincoln and a Bachelor Degree in Business and Accounting from Doane College in Crete. Erin worked for over 25 years as a tax accountant and controller in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Erin has a son, Gage who lives in Lincoln. She had many friends and a variety of interests. She loved music, going to concerts and dancing. She loved to meet up with friends for coffee or lunch, play sand volleyball and other activities. She took a special interest in her nieces and nephews and attended as many activities as she could.

Erin had a passion for travel and visited Bali, Iceland, Croatia, Poland, Italy, Greece, Costa Rica, Cancun, the Panama Canal on a cruise, Ireland, and many other countries with her friends and family.

Erin bravely fought bile duct liver cancer for 3 years. She strongly advocated for herself by researching traditional and alternative treatments. Her positive attitude inspired her friends, family and caregivers.

Erin is survived by her son, Gage Niemann of Lincoln, parents Bruce and Marilyn Schmit of Bellwood, sisters Emily (Steve Arens) Sample, Rebecca (Chase) Spicer, both of Lincoln, brother Adam (Brittany) Schmit of Bellwood. Nieces Darian Blyden, Abby Sample, and Lilly Spicer, nephews Tristan, Hayden, and Colston Schmit of Bellwood.

Erin was preceded in death by her grandparents Leander and Anita Svoboda and Gerald and Delores Schmit, nephew Tad DeWispelare, and uncles Ken Svoboda and Mike Egger.

A visitation for Erin will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 211 Esplanade St., Bellwood, NE 68624, followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM. A Catholic Memorial Mass will occur Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 10:30 AM, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. A Celebration of Life will take place Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sesostris Shrine, 1050 Saltillo Rd, Roca, NE 68430. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Erin's honor are in the care of the family for future designation.
