

Ervin L. Spinar, 92 of Lincoln, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Holmes Lake Manor. Born February 7, 1923, to Vladimir and Rose Spinar of Crete, NE. He grew up on the family farm, graduated from Crete High School, attended the University of Nebraska, and was called to service during WWII. He served with the 33rd Infantry Division in New Guiana, Morati, Philippines and with the occupational forces in Japan. After his service he went to work for Metropolitan Life. He married Virginia Darlene Burnett on June 12, 1943. Ervin was elected president of the Missouri Valley Chapter of the Veteran’s Association of Metropolitan Life Insurance. In addition he was the winner of the 1988 O.R. Frey Award, which is given “to a member who has most distinguished himself in the course of a lifetime.” He was with Metropolitan for 53 years. During his years of service, he was a Certified Life Underwriter, Board Member of the Lincoln Association, The Nebraska Association, and a member of the National Council of Life Underwriters. Ervin Spinar is survived by his 3 children: daughter Virginia (Warren) White of Aurora, CO, sons: Donald (Beverly Austin) and David G. Spinar of Lincoln, five grandchildren and eight great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and his wife of 58 years. Viewing will be at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home between 6-8 on May 26, 2015. Graveside service for family will be held at 9:30 am on May 27, 2015, at Lincoln Memorial Park. Church service will be held at New Hope United Methodist Church, 45th and Orchard at 11:00 am. Memorials should go to the Warren Methodist Church Foundation or New Hope United Methodist Church.
