Georgene (Ehlers) Duer, 96, of Lincoln, passed away on Sunday June 29th surrounded by her family. She was born April 30, 1929 in Albion, NE to Christian and Ida (Bahr) Ehlers. Georgene attended grade school in Utica and graduated from Seward High School.
Georgene was united in marriage to Welden Duer on August 20, 1950 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Staplehurst. They welcomed 4 children: Katherine, Mark, Sarah and Curt. Georgene’s faith was strong and she lived a long, full life. She was active within the Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary and a variety of local committees. Georgene worked at the Elgin National Watch Company, LT&T and owned/operated a successful jewelry store in David City. She enjoyed sewing, flowers, birds, antiquing, dancing at the Flying-V-Ballroom, entertaining, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved cutting out comics and funny/inspiring quotes to send to family and friends.
Life shouldn’t be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly shouting, “Wow! What a ride! Thank you Lord!”
Georgene is survived by her daughter Katherine (Ron) Hotovy of David City; granddaughters Veronica (Mike) Hotovy-Pino of Lincoln and Rebecca Hotovy of Kearney; son Rev. Mark Duer of LaGrange, IL, daughter Sarah Duer of Lincoln, son Curt (Stefania) Duer; grandsons Nico and Luca Duer of Panama City Beach, FL; sister-in-law Shirley Ehlers of David City; several much loved nieces and nephews.
Georgene is preceded in death by her parents. Brothers Harold, Chris Jr., Vern, Robert and Paul. Sisters Lilian, Mildred and Marie. Much loved sister-in-laws & brother-in-laws. Her loving husband of 67yrs Welden.
A visitation for Georgene will be held Monday, July 7, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3825 Wildbriar Ln, Lincoln, Nebraska 68516, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
