James Marcus Campbell, beloved son, brother, father, grandparent, uncle, partner and friend, blessed the earth with his charisma, charm and his relentless love for family. From the moment of his birth on September 18, 1966, until he was called home on December 17, 2025, at the age of 59.
Jim was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to Judy and Jerry Campbell, and was preceded in death by his father. Jim is survived by his mother Judy; his sister Jana; his three dearly cherished children Jack, Miami, and Callum (girlfriend Amauria); his grandchildren CheVeyo, Malaya, and JaVeyah; his niece Brooklyn (husband Seth, great-niece Indie); and his life partner Stephanie.
Jim was the rock and backbone of the family, consistently gathering everyone together for family vacations, dining out, watching sporting events, or to his and Steph’s home for their infamous Monday night tacos. He kept the family group chat lively and filled with laughs, sending pictures from the past, challenges of guessing where he and Steph were out to eat, and offering television and movie recommendations. His grandchildren were his whole world. From his nightly FaceTimes, to pool days, to days of adventure, he could not get enough of them, and they could not get enough of their Papa! He enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by family.
To the rest of southeastern Nebraska, Jim is better known as the lead singer of Cactus Hill, the country band that took the area by storm in the late 1990s through the 2000s alongside his “brother from another mother”, Bobby Williams. Jim was the life of the party with his playful crowd interaction, making any event filled with dancing, smiles, laughs, and a night full of entertainment.
Please come as you are to help us celebrate Jim’s life. A private graveside service will be held for the family. Memorials can be made to the family for future use.
