

Passed away April 22, 2022. Born in Lincoln to Farel and Doraleah (Bovey) Hyland, he graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1952. After serving two years in the US Navy, he attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1960 with a degree in geology. He married Alma Wolmack, his loving wife of 67 years in 1955. Jim worked for the Federal Soil Conservation Service for 30 years Including stops in Wyoming, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Texas and Washington D.C. After retirement in 1990, Jim and Alma returned to the Lincoln area. Jim enjoyed spending time as a youth hockey coach in Huron, SD, was a member and commander of American Legion Post #7 in Huron, and was a Past Master of Cotner Lodge No. 297 where he was recognized for Outstanding Service to the Nebraska Freemasons CHild Identification Program in 2017. Jim was also an avid Husker fan throughout his life. Surviving family members include wife Alma (Womack) Hyland, daughter Pam (Brad) Richter, son Marc Hyland, sister Donna Evans, brother Joe (Pat) Hyland, sister Susan (Oliver) Block, and grandsons Travis (MaKayla) Richter and Drew (fiancée Elease) Richter.
