Dear Janice & Family,
It was such a shock to read that Jerry had passed away. It has been many years since I had seen either of you, but so remember Jimmy & Jerry and their talents on that piano at Bresula. Wow, could they ever make that piano hum and to keep up the dancing to their music was crazy. I have often thought about I wish I had stayed in touch with both of you when you left for Lincoln, but hadn't. Remember when I stayed with you, when you lived west of Norfolk in a trailer house and I was going to college. My how time flew by so fast. Would love to touch base with you. Dad, We all will miss you tremendously.  Your humor, smiles, laughter, and dedication to us all was greatly appreciated.  We have all been blessed to have you in our lives.  I am so grateful to your gift of Love to us all.  Thank you for being there to help us through both good times and the trying ones.  I especially want to thank both You and Mom, for the gift you have given to me.  The love of your daughter and my children.  Most Grandchildren don't get the opportunity to know their Grandparents like my children have.  They know you both on a much greater scale.  You are also their friends.  You have played a key role in helping raise my children, and I am grateful they have had the opportunity to know you on such a personal level.  There are so many memories filled with Joy and Laughter we have all shared as a family, and we will cherish every single one of them.  As a family we will continue on, Dad you will always be in our hearts and in our thoughts and prayers. Mom, we will always be there for you as well.  I know its tough and will be rough for a while but, we will make it through by depending and leaning on each other.  We love you both and forever will!

Dad, there is one little secret you haven't shared with us.  We want to know how you could get the kids to rub you feet for a "whole penny"!!  How did you get away with that?  We know, that special treatment was because they Love you so much!!!

Dad Remember when... something fell from the ceiling of your garage and put a dent in Mom's hood on the van.  You said you didn't know how that dent got there.

Dad Remember when... We went to the dump with Jerry's old green Ford truck and we had to get a bulldozer to push us out because we got it stuck.

Dad Remember when... You would have Mom make coffee and bring a pot to our house for the holiday's because you couldn't stand the taste of ours.

Dad Remember when... You would laugh and laugh so hard it hurt, while watching the kid's (when they were little) work together to escape from the play pen.

Dad Remember when... You made a ladder for Bumpkin's pen.  Then you taught her how to use it so she could get in and out of the dog pen on her own, just so you didn't have to bend over to pick her up.

Dad remember when... You mounted umbrella's on the kids battery powered Jeeps because you thought they were getting too much sun.

Remember when... Jaron climbed the tree and got his head stuck.  You had to drive your tractor down to get him loose.

Remember when... You looked for you glasses for hours and they were right where you left them.  On top of your head.

Remember when... We were cleaning out your garage.  You had Jerry smell some  jug bottles to see what was in them.  I guarantee, he will never do that again!!

Dad, Remember when... you were cutting wood with Jerry and you got a cramp in your hand.  Your hand was formed to the handle of the chain saw and we needed to pry it off.  After we got it loose Jerry asked you if could wiggle your thumb and it immediately cramped back up, locking it to the palm of your hand.

Daddy Remember when... You built me a go cart too!  Then we decided to go racing down the hill with our go carts and the handle bars broke off yours.  Your eyes were as big as saucers when you realized you had no steering.  Oh, the laugh we had afterwards, when you finally got it stopped.

Dad, Remember when... You put the plate that stated "I refuse to grow up! " on "My motorcycle".  Then you decided to keep it because you liked riding it around town and when you went camping.

Remember when... We went camping and decided to ride bikes into Yankton.  Later that day Jerry had to go buy a gel seat. Also, that was the year you and Carl swore you were being attacked by May flies.

Remember when... You were racing the Barracuda in Norfolk and had too big of tires on it and they cracked the fender?  But Hey Daddy,  YOU WON THE RACE !!

Remember when.. you fixed up the black Ford Falcon and when you were finished with it, the automatic shifted the opposite way it should, and when it rained, you had to step on the gas to get the wipers to go faster.

Remember when... You picked Mom up for a date without car doors on your vehicle, and asked her to help you put them on?

Remember when... Your suspenders let loose, springing up in the air and landed on your head at the Cafe, while eating breakfast?

Remember when you took Mom for a boat ride at Branched Oak Lake and the motor quit and you had to row back to shore.

Daddy, Remember when Mom or I would do something wrong and you would go and mark it on the calendar!

Janice, I am so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing.  If there is anything I can do or if you even just want to talk, I am just a phone call away.  My prayers are with you and your children and grandchildren.  God bless and comfort you.  Linda cousin.

My husband and I have wonderful memories of Jerry "Chick" Sothan from our high school years.  He was a year ahead of us at Plainview High and we loved when he entertained all of us with his rollicking piano playing in the gym.  There are many schoolmates we would not remember but fondly remember Jerry.

I want you to know what an honor it was to be Jerry's physician for the time I was in Lincoln. Even though he was often in pain, he always inspired me with his humor, his positive attitude and his ability to see the good in every situation.  I miss him, and I know how much he will be missed by all of you.  You will be in my prayers at this difficult time.

Dad,  From the first day we met, you treated me as your own son.  I have always been proud to call you "Dad".  You were always there to lend a hand, give advice, or just to talk.  I won't ever forget the fun we had camping, the famous bike race which resulted in sore bottoms (mine in particular), or all the times we spent working on things, or just hanging around and talking.  I have appreciated your friendship throughout the years.  You taught me how to be the Daddy you knew I could be.  I will always cherish the memories we shared and I know all of us will "Miss you" immensely.  You have been a great husband, father, and grandpa!  The love you gave us is more than enough to last us a lifetime.  "I Love You Dad"!  Thank you for letting me a part of your life.  Your son,  Jerry

Dear Grandpa,  I remember when I would wake up early to work out in the shed with you.  We would tinker around on things.  Then we would find more things and work on those.  We would have so much fun.  In the summer time, when it was hot, we would have popsicles.  Then, we would go back to work on dirty things!  When i got dirty, Grandma would tell me to take a shower!!  I would tell her "I don't stink".  But she would say Grandpa made me get dirty.  Thank you for all the wonderful memories Grandpa.  I will always miss you, and will always have a sweet spot in my heart for you!  I LOVE YOU GRANDPA!!!!  XOXOXO    Love, Rylee

Dear Grandpa, I will always remember you by the sounds of a piano, and what you built for us like; the three wheeler, toys, and you fixed my bike "Alot".  If you got mad at us, you never stayed mad for very long.  I liked the way you danced around, built things, and your laugh. I will miss you alot Grandpa, I will love you always. Grandpa, I always remember you wanting to go outside or be outside.  You would tinker with all your projects and would only come inside to hear us play music or eat.  When we would play music, you always wanted me to play "You are my sunshine" since it was your favorite song.  So I would play it for you because you taught it to me.  I will Love you forever Grandpa, even though I can't see you.  I'm glad I was a part of your life!  I will miss you and Love you Forever! Kylee Jo

Daddy, You gave me life and helped me blossom into a lady, then a wife, which led to becoming a mother.  You taught me to be loyal, kind, respectful, and independent.  You always made time to be there when I needed you regardless wether you were tired or hurting.  I loved spending time with you and doing different things together. I am so sorry to hear about Jerry, Mom has kept me informed of his condition for many months now.  I know how hard this must be for you and your family.  I never knew Jerry, but I felt like I did through all of the many things Mom told me about him.  Please know that I am praying for you and your family at this sad time.  We all love you!  I hope you can come out to Arizona for a visit sometime.

Janice, I feel so sad and so much sorrow for you and your family.  Jerry was such a prince of a man, he was such a teaser!!! He used to say to me "I know somebody that wants to dance with me"!!!!  He would say "I have to get my dancing shoes out of the closet"!!  I always have to laugh when I think of him.
I am sure he will be missed by all of us..  Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, please accept my sincere condolences.  Love you so much Auntie Lee!
