Matt was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He also spent time in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked 10 years for Cushman/Textron. Matt spent the last 8 years of his life under the loving care of staff at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
Survived by his mother Constance (Ruple) Carey, wife Rebecca (Fry) Carey, daughters: Amanda (Chris) Richards, Aubrina (Nate) Lockhart, Manda (Joel) Hansen, grandchildren: Danilynn Richards, Launa and Makenna Lockhart, Maya and Kyle Hansen, brothers: James Carey, Daniel (Shanda) Carey, sisters: Stacy (Juan) Ramirez, Jean (Robert Schirm) Ells, Debra (Howard) Fritz, mother-in-law Lora Fry, brother-in-law Mark (Debbie) Fry, numerous nieces and nephews, Uncle Lynn (Kay) Ruple.
Preceded in death by father John (Cecil) Carey, brother Roger Carey, father-in-law Gary Fry, mother-in-law Bonnie Fry.
