Kathryn Kaye Peterson, age 84, of Lincoln Nebraska passed away on Thursday April 7, 2022. Kathryn was born December 7, 1937 to David and Irene (Stastny) Cawley in Crete, NE. She graduated from Crete High School in 1956 and she attended Lincoln School of Commerce.
She began working at the University of Nebraska Lincoln on East Campus at the Animal Science Department. During this time, she met her future husband Lloyd E. Peterson at a Lamb judging competition. They married on October 29, 1961 settling down in the Havelock area of Lincoln. When their daughter, Julia, and son, Steven, came along she took a break from working. Later she would return working in the Registrar’s Office at Nebraska Wesleyan University. In 1982 she would return to UNL first working in the Philosophy Department then moving back to the Animal Science Department where she would officially retire from in 2000.
Kaye enjoyed many things in her life. Besides her husband and children the love of her life was her grandson Cole. She loved watching him play baseball and traveling to all the bowling tournaments. She also loved their talks about Husker sports, baseball including an occasional bet on the St. Louis Cardinals – Chicago Cubs baseball games. She rooted for the Kansas City Royals and the Chiefs just to make things interesting. She loved to travel especially when it included a Nebraska football or baseball game. In her quiet time she loved romance, historical romance, and mystery novels. And if you didn’t see a book in her hands she enjoyed knitting blankets and sweaters for family members.
Family was important to her too. Brothers David, of Grandview, MO., and James Cawley (deceased), of Crete, NE, and sister Shirley Cawley Heitman, of Council Bluffs, IA were always on her mind. She was always thinking of them.
