Larry Lee Loomis was born in Maryville, MO on February 8, 1948 to Phyllis Kruezberg Moore and Lee Loomis. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Beatrice in 1966 where he was a standout athlete. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to earn a BS in Education, and served as the president of his fraternity, Delta Tau Delta. He also holds a MA in Educational Administration. Larry taught high school in Beatrice for two years before working as the DECA programs coordinator for the State of Nebraska. He started his own trophy and awards business, Awards Unlimited, in 1977, where he enjoyed helping celebrate important events in the lives of local community members, as well as on the national stage. He was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church and St. Mary’s Church in Lincoln and eagerly supported his children’s school, scouting, scientific, and athletic endeavors. He sold Awards Unlimited in 2015 and in his retirement, moved South to Corpus Christi, TX to enjoy warmer, sunnier weather. He had an active social life in Texas, and attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
Larry was a soft-spoken family man who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He was also an avid golfer. Although he preferred to stay out of the spotlight, Larry sought ways to contribute to the community and to generously help those around him. He and his partner Mary enjoyed traveling (Rome was his favorite), entertaining friends and family in their home, attending activities and events of his grandchildren, and were active members of the Corpus Christi Seniors Group. Ever curious, Larry loved the art of learning. From calligraphy to birdwatching, he always enjoyed researching and exploring something new.
Larry passed away in Corpus Christi on June 2, 2022 at the age of 74. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Moore; partner, Mary Kinsey; brother, Rick Loomis (Connie); his children Nicholas Loomis (Laura Wasserman) and Andrea Sprockett (Daniel); step-children Stephanie Kinsey and Nicole Riojas (Andrew); eight grandchildren; and former spouse Bee Loomis.
Visitation and Rosary will be held at 5:00pm, Monday, June 13 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home (6800 S 14th St, Lincoln, NE 68512).
