the river ice skating. On August 23, 1941, Lela and Bill were married. As the matriarch of the family, she was selfless, patient, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. After her
four sons were grown, she worked in retail, which later she became manager of Natelson's Clothing Store. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face.
She was always thinking of others first. "To know her was to love her." Lela loved the holidays, especially Christmastime. Everyone knew that she started baking the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas
Eve. Survived by sons, William Jr. (Pat) Smith, Michael (Deb) Smith, Steven Smith, and Russell (Julie) Smith; Grandchildren, Eileen Crosby, Kathleen (Michael) Boyd, Donald (Amy) Smith,
Jennifer (Matt) Roth, Timothy Smith, Erica (Tim) Thomas, Jill (Danny) Mlinar, Stephanie (Adam) Horn, Christopher Smith, Matthew (Dawn) Smith, Sarah Smith, Lindsey Smith, Shannon Smith; 41 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Wlaschin, Sandra Runge, and sister in-law, Shirley Haith and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband, William Sr.; great-grandson, Austin Koehler; four brothers and 2 sisters.
