She is survived by her brother Burl Baty, sisters Grace Walker, Rachel (Ronnie) Robison and Terri Melvin; her children Glenda (Ron) Rodney, Cynthia (Larry) Kelly, Larry (Mary Lea) Stump and Martha (Robert) Compton; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was the seventh child of William and Ariel Baty. With a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face she would say “You know how special number seven is.” To all those that knew her that was certainly true!
Growing up she lived in Bain, Minnesota, which was a small town 22 miles north of Aitkin. Her family lived in a house that had been the schoolhouse, so it was always referred to as “the old schoolhouse”. A new school was built in 1925 and was used for church and community activities. Lois felt privileged to be born into such a special family where they were taught the way of the Lord. Because of that, she had a desire to go to the church’s Christian college in Miltonville, Kansas. There Lois met the love of her life, Richard Stump. Richard grew up in Falls City, Nebraska where he was saved in the Nazarene Church.
Lois and Richard were married on September 5, 1950 in the Wesleyan Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Brother-in-law Eldred Cummings officiated. Lois’s wedding dress was made out of a parachute that Richard had gotten while serving in the United States Airforce in World War II. They were blessed with four children – Glenda, Cindy, Larry and Martha. The family continued to grow with marriages and births of many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. The Lord blessed Lois and Richard with nearly 42 years of marriage before He called Richard home.
Lois was a homemaker and caregiver, friend and “mother” to many. She worked several years for the Omaha Public School District in the cafeteria at Belvedere Elementary School. She loved participating in church activities, singing the old hymns, family vacations, and visiting with family and friends. She helped prepare meals at the church summer camp for many years and looked forward to Thanksgiving family reunions, Minnesota family reunions and bus trips to Branson with friends. Lois was a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) for many years. Most of all Lois loved to share the Gospel and was a prayer warrior for many. She always had a smile on her face and was loved by all.
Lois once said that her greatest prayer was that she would be a blessing for others. She truly was!
A visitation for Lois will be held Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512. A funeral service will take place on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
