Born Lois Irene Laird on February 16, 1927 in a farmhouse near Ashland, Nebraska. She was part of a large family with 4 brothers and 5 sisters of which she was the second youngest of the bunch. All of her brothers & sisters have since passed away.
Lois started her schooling in Iowa but graduated high school in Roca, Nebraska in 1945. After graduation, she worked at Walgreens Drug store in Lincoln. She married her high school sweetheart Leslie Talbot in January of 1946 and was married for 63 years till his death in July 2009. Lois & Les had three children Thomas in June 1946 (deceased), Linda in May 1947 (deceased), and Marshall in May 1957 living in Broken Arrow, OK. They moved to a family farm in the mid 50’s just south of Cheney, Nebraska and farmed that land till moving into a house on East “0” St. in Lincoln. She started working at King’s Buffet. After just one year, she wanted to work closer to home and started working for Hinky Dinky in 1962 until she retired from there after 20 years. She liked being a stay at home mom. Lois & Les ran a ceramics business and classes in the basement of the house for a few years. She loved crafts and had a steady hand for painting ceramics. They moved to a smaller place on Garland St. in Lincoln to be closer to work and schools before moving back to Cheney in April 1976. After Les had his heart surgery in 1996 they moved into a condo at North Gate in Lincoln to get away from all the work needed to keep up the house and yard. Then a few years after Les’s death the condo became too much for her to keep up alone and she moved to assisted living.
Lois and Les loved camping and started out in a homemade tent but progressed to a fifth-wheel trailer. Traveled all over the country and even became “Snowbirds” and spent the winters in south Texas after Les retired from Goodyear in 1987 after almost 37 years. She loved music and played the electric harpsichord for a few years. She would always go down and listen to live music in the condo or in her assisted living. Everyone who ever met Lois knows how kindhearted and sweet she was. If you had a piece of candy you made a new friend. She had a big sweet tooth and loved her candies she would always have a dish out with the sweets. She would always greet and say goodbye to you with the biggest hug. When you got the hug from her you knew it was from her heart and she meant it.
