Mrs. Marlee A Schell

Marlee (Marti) Ann Schell, age 81, passed peacefully on June 18th, 2023. Marti was born on August 30th, 1941 in Minden Nebraska to Fred and Lois (Dyer) Kahle. She grew up in Kearney, Nebraska and graduated from Longfellow High School in Kearney in 1959. She ended up in Lincoln Nebraska after living a few years in Glendale, California where her 3 children were born. Her career in Lincoln was in education. She worked at Arnold Heights Elementary, Goodrich Jr. High, Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska. She started in the Engineering College, then transferred to Biological Sciences College, where she was the Assistant to the Dean and Business Manager for the 3-building College. She retired after 26 years at UNL.

On July 10th, 1995 Marti married Larry Schell. They met while Larry was singing karaoke and a mutual friend introduced them. They both loved to go dancing, gardening and traveling with family and friends. In 2008 they added their dog Bandit to the family and boy was he spoiled!

Marti taught all her kids and grandkids to make her mother’s delicious cinnamon rolls. She loved flowers and would spend hours in the yard. She was always willing to go shopping, even if it was just going to the grocery store. She enjoyed having coffee and lunches with her friends as often as possible and they would spend hours talking and laughing. Marti was still getting the newspaper because she liked doing the crossword puzzle and reading it every day.

Survived by her 2 daughters:

Sondra (Lynn) Schmidt of Parkville, MO and their son Joe Schmidt, and step-daughters Kiri (Leigh) West and Haley (Austin) Duncan and 6 great grandchildren.

Cheryl Jurgens of Omaha, NE and her daughter Ciara Jurgens.

Many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband Larry Schell, her son Timothy Jurgens, grandson Dustin Jurgens, sister Ardis and brother Leon.

Memorial Services are scheduled for Wednesday June 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials are in the care of the family for future designation.
