Mildred "Millie" (Schernikau) Davenport was born on November 19, 1929, to Harvey and Nettie (Long) Schernikau on a farm near Beaver Crossing, Nebraska. She passed peacefully into the Lord's arms on September 18, 2020. She attended country school and graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1946, and went on to receive her Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees in Business Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her teaching career included high schools and colleges in Nebraska and Missouri before returning to UNL as a Professor of Business Education. She married Russell "Russ" Davenport in November of 1949. They raised three children and also lived in St. Joseph, Missouri, for several years before coming home to Lincoln. They owned and operated a sporting goods store in Lincoln before retiring in 1996. After retiring, "Millie" spent many hours gardening, cross-stitching and crocheting "snuggle wraps" for foster children. She had been a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church for many years; and when the children were young, Millie not only taught Sunday School and helped with youth group, but also played the organ and piano at church. The family would like to express our gratitude to Bickford Cottage and Aseracare Hospice for their loving care. Survivors include her daughters, Diane (Barry) Schuckman and Yvonne Davenport, both of Lincoln; grandchildren, Derek (Abby) Schuckman of Fontana, CA; Brynn Schuckman, Lincoln; Brady (Rebecca) Schuckman of Charlotte, NC; Bryson Davenport and Kristen (Andy) Davenport DeMoss of Lincoln; and 8 great grandchildren.
