

Oren L. Fix passed away September 16, 2014. He was born March 16, 1925 on a farm near Cortland, Nebraska to Daniel H. and Tillie L. (Schwaninger) Fix. Oren attended Jackson rural school near his home for the first 8 grades and then graduated from Cortland High School in 1942. He played basketball and also played trumpet in the band. After graduation, he attended Bellevue Trade School and graduated in Welding. He was married to Vernelle Ann Pfeiffer on August 1, 1946 in the Methodist church in Hallam, Nebraska with Reverend Samuel Beechner officiating. They lived on a farm south of Cortland, Nebraska for 65 years. Oren was active as a member of the Jackson School Board while his children attended there. On April 20, 1986, Oren and Vernelle joined Beatrice Centenary Church. He was a faithful usher for many years and also served on the Finance Committee at the church.
Oren is survived by his wife, Vernelle; sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin and Rita Fix and Conrad and Sue Fix, all of Cortland; daughter and son-in-law, Danalee and Ron Nelson, of Shickley; five grandchildren, Casey Fix and wife, Tenile, Craig Fix and wife Kim, Tabitha Kaiser and husband, Brian, Ciji Nelson, and Lauren Fix; three great-grandchildren, Corbin, Taden, and Shaylee Fix; cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by grandson, Corey Fix.
Oren was born on a farm and was a true farmer in every way all his life. He enjoyed people and did some traveling until Diabetes made life complicated. He fought the good fight, always keeping an optimistic outlook on life.
Visitation will be Friday, 9/19 from 5-7 PM, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, 9/20 at 2 PM, also at the funeral home, with Dr. Charles L. Spence officiating. Condolences may be left online at www.lincolnfh.com.
