Robert E. Barrett, age 91, died peacefully in his sleep on July 20, 2022. Although he had Parkinson’s disease, he died of old age. He is survived by brother, Fred of Antioch, CA; sister, Barbara of Fredericksburg, VA; four children, Evelyn Harsh of Bend, OR, Daniel and wife, Shawn of Corvallis, OR, Laura Barrett of Salem, OR and Jennifer and husband, Charlie Walker of Bandera, TX; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was born July 13, 1931 to Roy F. and Dotha (Watkins) Barrett and raised in Yakima, WA. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force, spending more than three years at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, WA. He played for the Fairchild Air Force baseball team from 1952 through 1954. The baseball team came in second in the world in 1953. He left the service as a Staff Sergeant in 1954.
After leaving the service, he graduated from Eastern Oregon College of Education. Teaching became his life for the next 34 years. He taught at Monument, Oregon, and Fern Ridge High School in Oregon, Del Norte High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico and at East High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. He retired in 1994.
He was an active bowler before and after retirement, bowling his last 300 game at the age of 80.
In 2002, he married Mrs. Suzanne (Amos) Steeves. They have traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
