Roman J. Liekhus of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on January 21, 2021 at the age of 92. Born on March 9, 1928 in Howells, Nebraska to Joseph and Elizabeth Liekhus, he was fourth of nine children. He married Marlene (Conradt) Liekhus on May 11, 1963 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beatrice, Nebraska. Roman served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After discharge, Roman started working for the Nebraska State Patrol as a civilian dispatcher and then became a State Trooper in October 1955. He worked for the Nebraska State Patrol for 31+ years both on-the-road and in the Communications Department where he retired as a Captain. After retiring, Roman began his second career as the DAV Transportation Coordinator at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lincoln for 17 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Disabled American Veterans #7-Lincoln.
Roman is survived by his three children, Linda L. Earnest, Roman James Liekhus, and Lisa A. Liekhus, son-in-law Thomas E. Lewandowski, grandson Jacob R. Earnest, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers and three sisters.
A viewing will be held on January 25, 2021 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed with a rosary. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 7601 Vine Street, Lincoln, on January 26, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Lyle Johnson officiating and burial directly following at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Park. As per Covid-19 guidelines, social distancing will be practiced and masks are required. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. lincolnfh.com
