Velma Jean "Vemmy" Loos Nielsen, age 92, of Lincoln, Nebraska, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 15, 2025. A devoted servant of God, Vemmy’s life was a testament to her deep faith, her love for family, and her passion for serving others.
Born on April 7, 1932 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Adam and Katherine Loos, Vemmy grew up cherishing her family and faith. She married her high school sweetheart and beloved husband, Donald “Don” D. Nielsen, on March 10, 1951, and together they built a life centered on glorifying the Lord. Vemmy’s world revolved around her God, her husband, her three daughters, her sons-in-law, her granddaughter, the Loos family, her good friends, her cherished bible study… and being delighted in seeing pictures of her grand-pups and grand-kitty.
Vemmy found great joy in everything she did in life. She delighted in honoring God & Country and treasuring all holidays with family and friends. Vemmy’s days were filled with reading her Bible, hosting family and church gatherings and teaching others the joys of faith, family and food. Vemmy loved Sunday morning Sunday School and church followed by lunch with family and friends at Tico’s, The Cornhusker Hotel or Grandmother’s restaurant. Vemmy loved teaching her Tuesday morning Bible study, The Lamb’s Club, for over 50 years followed by the ladies going to lunch and shopping in the afternoon. Vemmy’s highlight of the week was Friday's at noon at Tico’s with the love of her life, her husband Donald, where their booth was held for them weekly.
Vemmy loved babies and little children but especially loved watching her pride and joy, darling granddaughter Charis grow up into a beautiful young woman. Vemmy enjoyed collecting lambs & sheep items, writing about her upbringing and Lincoln memories of downtown – especially those of Miller & Paine and Gold’s, developing patriotic church music programs, doing crafts, and reading. She loved cooking, baking, and candy-making… and making sure that all was shared with family and friends. She was especially known for her delicious homemade caramels. Vemmy always knew everything you do is a gift from God, so whatever you are doing - do it well and enjoy it! Also, show kindness to everyone.
Vemmy is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 74 years, Donald; daughters Cathy (Bill) Thomas of Scottsdale, Arizona, Beth (Russ) Vogel of Lincoln, and Mary Jane (Peter) Ringsmuth of Lincoln; her granddaughter Charis of Scottsdale, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
Vemmy “Vem” was preceded in death by her “Mama and Papa” Katherine and Adam Loos; and all of her brothers and sisters and sisters and brothers-in-law: Lydia “Lyd” Loos, Margaret “Margo” (Albert) Rekart, Jacob “Jake” (Francis) Loos, William “Willie” (Emma) Loos, Pauline “Paula Sue” Loos, Edward “Eddie” (Lillian) Loos, John “Johnny” (Norma) Loos, Miriam “Mir” (Mid) Hughes, Virginia “Since” (Virgil) Thaller, Richard “Brother” (Willa) Loos, and Adam “Junior” (Donna) Loos Jr.; nieces and nephews; and numerous close friends.
Vemmy was a treasured wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher and friend and will be missed greatly. But there is coming a day when we will celebrate a reunion with her and our loved ones together in Heaven. Let the Circle be unbroken… Vemmy wants you in heaven too, so to be there you must ask Jesus Christ to be your Savior. Ask Jesus into your heart today! “Thanks be to God” for Vemmy’s life well-lived and the eternal promise of salvation.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation one hour before service. The family encourages memorials to Immanuel Church, 941 Charleston Street, Lincoln, NE, 68508 and Tabitha Home Health Care.
