

Born to the late Alcinois Charlemagne and Rita Nelson, Jean Lafonine Charlemagne was the first born to Ms Rita Nelson out of five children. Jean Charlemagne was the fifth child out of twenty- four children for Alcinois Charlemagne.Jean Charlemagne had an easy going demeanor.Jean was born Catholic and during his later years became a baptist where he continued to maintain his spiritual relationship with God .
He attended school in Haiti during his primary school. He later earned his collegiate degree in Haiti as well as an electrical engineer where he met his first wife Eliver Micheal. He began his career in Port- Au-Prince, Haiti for an electrical company and started a family with his first wife Eliver Micheal and had two children. They gave birth to Wendy Charlemagne prior to departing Haiti in pursuit of the American Dream.
Upon arrival to the United States in 1982, they gave birth to their second child, Teddy Charlemagne. He remained a longtime resident in Maplewood, New Jersey. Prior to his early retirement, Jean worked at Pathmark.
After early retirement,Jean decided to move to Haiti to pursue his lifelong dream in entrepreneurship with his brother Ronel and sister Westa .There they opened a gas station. During that time, he separated from his first wife after moving back to Haiti where he met his second wife Raymond D. Charlemagne. After living in Haiti for over 10 years, Jean and Raymond decided to move to Lakeland,Florida. Jean and Raymond had two children Dean and Dorthy Charlemagne.Jean and Raymond resided in Lakeland with their children.
During Jean’s final days, his brother Alma provided care for him. Jean was diagnosed with stage four cancer and it spread rapidly. In an effort to prolong Jean's life his sister Roseline Nelson and niece Darnelle Charlemagne moved him to New Jersey to provide the care and comfort during his final days.
Jean leaves behind to mourn his wife Raymond D. Charlemagne children Wendy Charlemagne,Teddy Charlemagne,Dean Amell Charlemagne Dorothy Charlemagne grandchildren Aniya Wright ,Alana Wright ,Alyssa Wright, Joshua Charlemagne and great grandchild Alaia Wright . Brother and sisters Jean Ciceron Charlot ,Antoinette, Bocage,Kelly,Marc-Antoine,Carl ,Ninive ,Marie-Claire,Roselaine,Josette Westa ,Brandy ,Raymond, Francois, Ronel , Ernst, Caridad ,Paulena , Armand ,Gabriel ,Athanase ,Paul Henri, Manoucheka and Angelo and a host of nieces ,nephews ,cousins and friends.
A visitation for Jean will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East Saint George Ave, Linden, NJ 07036.
Message of gratitude
While our hearts aches at the loss of our beloved husband , father, grandfather ,great grandfather, brother , uncle , cousin and friend ,Jean Lafontine Charlemagne we are so full of knowledge of the tremendous positive impact that he had on all of us .
Over the past several days, It has truly been hard to cope with the fact that he is no longer part of this, but what gives us pleasure in knowing,that we will see him in the afterlife .In the words of my Angela "life is not measured by the number of breath we take but by the moments that take our breath away". We would like to personally thank Alma Charlemagne ,Roseline Nelson ,Ronel Charlemagne ,Rodline Charlemagne ,Jean Ciceron Charlot Charlemagne,Westa Emmanuel , Elvire Michel , Irvelle Francois, Farrah Rene and Darnelle Charlemagne , Overlook Hospital Staff , for providing outstanding care and support to Jean Charlemagne .
Roseline Nelson and Darnelle Charlemagne I will forever be grateful for the both of you thank you for the best 24hr care and loving him until the end of time.
