This evening I was saddened to hear of Joann’s passing.  She and I were teachers together at the DLC in New Providence for 14 years.  She was one of the most generous, kindest, funniest, optimistic, and courageous people I have ever known.  She once told me that the best thing a teacher can give to a student is love, and she sure spread a lot of that around.  That was Joann - visiting my husband before she even personally knew him when he was sick in the hospital to bring him books! Frank and I will never forget her and are grateful and blessed that we knew her.  We love and will miss her dearly.  Shine on, Jo! 

Joanne was a wonderful woman!  Full of life!  She loved her family dearly and I will surely miss her.  She was a joy to know and one of my most favorite people.  My condolences to her family.

Joanne was such a wonderful friend to my mom and to our whole family.  Growing up she showed me just how clever and funny a woman could be. Christmas Eve at her house was just an unbelievable event - I keep trying to make her pasta fagioli and it just doesn’t turn out the same. She was a truly good person. A person who made the world a better place through her teaching of special ed  kids and her generous kind regard for her friends and family. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our sweet “Aunt Jo”. She truly was a lovely lady who gave so much of her time, shared life experiences, & kindness to help so many. Our always upbeat “Aunt Jo” approached all obstacles of life with a positive attitude & above all kept a great sense of humor no matter what life threw at her. She never placed the burden of her illness on limiting herself from helping others, staying strong & independent, or showing her acts of kindness, compassion, generosity, & love. She was sharp, funny, & always loving to her family & great friends. She often spoke highly of all of her students & coworkers & truly loved her profession & genuinely cared about all of the children she worked with for so many years. She was a pragmatic & independent thinker & put things into perspective easily to help us all look at the brighter side of any situation. Laughter was indeed the best medicine for Aunt Jo. She never wanted you to worry about her, she wanted everyone to enjoy the ride on this crazy earth & she made sure to bring a smile to your face whenever you were in her company. We know that Aunt Jo has certainly earned her wings to fly with the angels as she always showed compassion & understanding for those who were burdened with illness or had special needs to make sure they were valued. 
Our most heartfelt condolences to Andy as he truly had a one of a kind loving & dedicated mom. Holidays will never be the same without you Aunt Jo, we will miss your quick whit, your interesting gift finds for the kids, your many exciting stories of the places you lived & "the good old days", your famous Eggnog, your willingness to just get up & dance at a party, your overall fun attitude to tackling life, & of course above all, your happy spirit & laughter. Aunt Jo you were truly a sweetheart & a treasure to all of us, we love you, we miss you, may you rest in peace free of pain, until we meet again. God Bless you forever. Where do i begin , Joanne was a one of a  kind type of Gal. She was someone you will never meet again in your life time. I was with Joanne in the same room for 6 years .The  best 6 years of my life . She always wanted a daughter and I needed a mom ..From that point on we formed a bond like no other. she was special . She tough me so much about life and the way I wanted to live it .She inspired me to be who I am today, not only as a person but as a teacher too. I learned through her how to teach  and most importantly reach  special needs children .The connection she had with her students was unreal and a privileged to watch.. Her out look on life ,her positive attitude is what kept me going threw out the years. She never complained, not once of anything that fell in he way ..She amazed me every day . 

She was a strong independent fierce woman who was a force  to be reckoned with . but, in the same breath a teddy bear who would literally give the shirt off her back to anyone in need of help.. I realized a long time ago to have such a genuine person with a heart of gold enter your life is the biggest blessing of 
all.i will always be grateful.

I will miss her witty scene of humor and her sassy comments .Her dancing around the classroom or singing her favorite "all my exes live in Texas". songs. Her yelling at her computer while I push her out the way to show her how to copy and paste for the 8th time .I will miss are fights and are hugs after ..but most of all ,I will miss are every two week phone calls of her telling me how much she loves me and reminiscing on our time together . I will miss her everyday. 

Joanne's love has touched so many people .her reach of how many is something she never realized because she was to humble to admit how special she was .. I mean with that salt and pepper hair who would not love her ...

I always enjoyed our mornings during my time at NP DLC just talking and sharing ideas. She was always such a positive person and made each day brighter. She will be dearly missed. 

Its sad to think that Joanne is no longer with us. she was my classroom teacher for the summer and following year that I was her assistant and as a student earning my special education certification.
She was always a big help and I learned so much.

Joanne,  you will be greatly missed by your loving family. 

The Family of Adele Evans would like to offer our deepest and most sincere condolences on the Passing of your Sweet Mom, affectionately known as "Aunt Joanne" by my grandchildren and all who knew and loved her.  Joanne became a dear friend and always had a kind and considerate word of encouragement to my dearly departed husband during his years of illness. She was good company, and offered interesting and intelligent conversation when we were fortunate to be in her presence. While she suffered for years with her own medical issues, she never expressed a complaint about herself to others. She courageously faced private health challenges with grace and strength.  She was one who made socializing with friends & family warm and meaningful.  One would never know if she was upset or not feeling well because optimism was her gift to all who made her acquaintance.   Joanne will be fondly missed, and lovely memories of her full and happy life as a patient educator of children with disabilities will be her magnificent legacy. Joanne and I started working for the Morris-Union Jointure Commission in September 1995.  I have so many fond memories  of Joanne's great sense of humor.  One year,  we were in a split classroom and we had so much fun.  Looking back it was really a gift to work with Joanne.  She was always helpful sharing ideas, materials, and funny stories!  Our birthdays were in October and we always exchanged cards.  Her cards were always with animals.  When  St. Hubert's  Animal Shelter sent volunteers  with their dogs  to interact with the students at school,  Joanne  always had treats for the dogs and  during the holidays, gifts for the volunteers. Joanne  has been a great friend,  a great teacher and she spoke so often about her son, brother and sister-in-law.  I know she will be happy to re-unite  with her loving husband Hank.  
   Rest in Peace my friend.

Joanne was a "Strong and Confident" women. She was never willing to back off from a challenge. She gave all she could to the children she worked with at the DLC.  She was always willing to help and support her students.  Joanne worked to the bitter end wanting to help others, even though she was dealing with challenges herself. 

I will always love her caring heart towards me and my family. My prayers and thoughts will always follow her son Andy and her loving family. 

God Bless You, Joanne.  My family and I  will always remember you.
