It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Konstantina “Dina” Spanos. Born and raised in Agios Petros in Arcadia, Peloponnesus, Greece, Dina immigrated to the United States in 1973 and settled in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a multipurpose aide at Elizabeth High School for many years.
In her former years, Dina was a longtime member of Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Union, NJ, where she was part of the Philoptochos, an organization that empowers community through the orthodox faith and philanthropy. In her latter years, she was also a member of Saint Fanourios Greek Orthodox Church in Elizabeth, NJ, where she loved to sing with the choir, especially on Good and Holy Friday when the Lamentations hymns were chanted.
Dina dedicated her life to being the best mother that she could be and creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Dina’s unwavering faith guided her life and her approach to motherhood. She was the epitome of unconditional love, selflessness, sacrifice, and strength.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 51 years, Dennis. Her radiant spirit is carried on by her two beloved children, Kathy and Jerry, and grand-dog Celeste, who were her entire world.
Rest in peace, most precious mother.
Your memory will be treasured forever as we hold you close in our hearts and remember the light you brought to our lives.
A visitation for Dina will be held Friday, September 5, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St Fanourios Greek Orthodox, 1034 E Jersey St, Elizabeth, NJ 07201, followed by mass from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A funeral will take place at Fairview Cemetery & Arboretum, 1100 E Broad St, Westfield, NJ 07090.
