Lelia Mae Rush made her earthly transition into the solace realm of God’s solipsism. It was on Sunday, February 8, 2026 that Lelia stepped into that realm of God. Lelia was the daughter of James and Minnie Mae Henderson.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Mae Henderson, her loving husband of forty-seven years, Charles Rush, and sisters; Mrs.Emma Payton, Ms. Pa’ra Lee Henderson,
Mrs. JoyceTollison, and brothers; Mr. Ernest Henderson and
Mr. Bill Henderson.
One of ten children, she was born in Thomasville, North Carolina. Lelia Mae (Henderson) completed her education at Church Street School in Thomasville. After high school, she attended and graduated from Livingston College, where she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority. She would go on to work for the United States
Postal Service in distinguished capacities until her retirement.
Lelia was well known to family and friends as “Chic” or “Aunt Chic”. She got the nickname of ‘Chic’ because in her youth, her red hair, was compared to the comb of a chicken. (Can’t confirm the story of
Aunt Para adding that she would follow her around like a chicken, with ‘that’ red topped hair’ when she was young...) She enjoyed being with family, traveling with her husband, and the thrills of finding, sharing, and shipping her great bargain finds.
Lelia will be missed by all who knew and loved her, including her surviving siblings: sister, Mrs. Mary Sellers (Lawrence), and brothers, Griffin Henderson (Linda), James Patrick Henderson, and
Gregory Henderson.
Visitation will be held at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home,
2124 East Saint Georges Ave, Linden, on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a funeral on Friday, February 13, 2026, directly at 2nd Baptist Church, 200 Locust St, Roselle, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
