She made mistakes, as we all do in life for no one is perfect, but she turned to God who is her ultimate judge and deliverer.  In that sense, Cousin Sheila reminds me of one of those female Biblical characters, like Mary Magdalene or Hagar who, throughout their lives faced challenges. The people of their time doubted them, but in the end, they knew the source of their strength was through the living God. Like those Biblical characters whom others questioned, doubted and even ridiculed, Cousin Sheila knew the ultimate source of her strength was in the Lord. From my vantage point it seems as if Jesus also viewed her as just the right person to execute his plan of redemption, recovery as a mother who became a matriarch to her family.   
Thank you, Cousin Sheila, for blessing us in so many different ways. When you were with us, we took everything for granted. Now we can reflect and appreciate the person you were. Thank you for touching so many different lives with your warmth, your hospitality and with your willingness to go the extra mile to accommodate those who were in need or just needed a place to stay until they were back on their feet.  Sheila Yhap’s front door was always open, both to strangers or friends.  For that, her Heavenly Father, the ultimate judge must have said to her, when he welcomed her home, “Well done thou good and faithful servant! Come home and rest! Your work there on Earth is over!”
On behalf of the Thompson and Andries families , I would like to encourage the Yhap children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to always remember this lady and the many lessons she taught of unity, togetherness, understanding and learning to forgive each other regardless of the time of day or night.  
To God be the Glory for the Great things he has done. This was Sheila Yhap, she made people feel welcomed, seen, heard, valued, loved & supported..

This she did far more than she has been given credit for.
     She is remembered as a Mother who was highly protective of her family. After the children came along, she developed a plan that has, for all intent and purposes, stayed in tack for much of her life. As far as she was concerned, that process would elicit respect, order and discipline in her family. First there was Neville, then Barbara, Anita, Roxanne, Lindon and Leslie. For her, Neville, the eldest boy was to be viewed and addressed as “Big Brother” and Barbara likewise, as the eldest sister as “Big Sister.”  The older siblings were tasked with setting an example and path for the younger siblings to follow. Sheila Yhap  fully understood the idea that in this world, filled with challenges, chaos and confusion, success began at the top and if an  example set by the older children was solidly executed, this will have a ripple effect as well as a tremendous influence on the younger siblings. Not every aspect of this plan worked to perfection, but who among us can argue with the results. As expected, from time to time, there were sibling rivalries and disagreements, but Sheila Yhap, with her overarching and dominant presence  was able to make everyone bury the hatchet and learn to respect, love and appreciate each other. Her parenting skills were home-grown and effective. One of these days, her children will look back, if they have not done so already, and truly appreciate the genius their mother was. 
     Sheila had a plan, and with the support of her husband “Buddy” it was well executed with regards to order, respect and eventual outcome in this family. This family, its accomplishments and successes was actually forged on the shoulders of this giant of a lady. Come to think of it, Cousin Sheila would have been among the first to admit that she was not a perfect human being.

A Biblical passage from the Apostle Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 13-14,  reminds us, “Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.  For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring, with Jesus, those who have fallen asleep in Him.” 

     Good Morning everyone. I am For as long as I can remember during my growing-up years, “Cousin Sheila,” as we called her, and my family lived right next door to each other.  Over the years we became very close and our relationship blossomed and operated more like family as opposed to being just next-door neighbors. 
      I was but a child when Evan and Sheila Yhap moved-in next door to us, in the small village of Domburg, Wakenaam in the Essequibo Islands of Guyana. At the time, I was a great admirer of Cousin Sheila. She was a young and beautiful young lady whom we learned had come to live on Wakenaam from Queenstown village on the Essequibo Coast after her marriage to Evan “Buddy” Yhap. In those early years of being a wife, she leaned on my parents, Eileen and William Andrew Thompson for advice while we the children were treated to some of her delicious home-cooked meals, her roti and curry immediately come to mind, and many other dishes time will not allow me to mention. One fact I do know is the fact that she was an excellent cook and the aroma from her kitchen often drifted over to our house as the air filled with the aroma of her cooking. 
    She was generous, even to a fault. Always willing to share her culinary creations with us. I have always loved her for her generosity as well as for her given spirit. According to my parents and my older siblings, Cousin Sheila, although independent in her thoughts and outlook, was always willing to learn, always ready to absorb and experiment with new ideas and concepts and apply them, in whatever way towards the betterment of her family.

My deepest condolences to the family. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Aunty Sheila was a high spirited  and loving person who would light up a room just for being in it.  She will truly be missed by many more than her immediate family.

With a heavy heart, I extend my  deepest condolences to the family of our beloved Sister Liliane. Having known her for many years through our Church Family, Trinity Christian Center, TCC.  I can truly say, that she was a remarkable woman whose kindness, faith, and warm spirit touched many of us. 
Sister Liliane was a shining example of grace and devotion. Her presence brought comfort, joy, and encouragement to those around her! One of her fun hobbies was browsing through different garage sales on Saturdays, and we love to bargain with the vendors . It was our fun, happy moments together !
As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her life, her legacy and faith she left behind. Lilie was a woman of faith, love and unwavering strength !
We’ll definitely treasure her memories !

Mommy always encouraged us to strive to be better and to raise the bar in everything we did. Her guidance and encouragement were not only for her own children, but for anyone who crossed her path. She was deeply family-oriented and truly cared for people. Her home was a place of warmth and generosity—no one ever left her house empty-handed, and certainly no one ever left with an empty belly.

She will always be remembered in the way we carry ourselves, in the way we care for others, and in the love we continue to share with those around us. Her spirit lives on through the kindness, strength, and compassion she instilled in all of us.

Aunty Sheila love for everyone had always been unconditional through her care, warmth, kindness and compassion. She has been in my life since I was a kid from my friendship/early school journey with her loving daughter Roxanne (my friend and sister). She cared for me like I was her daughter and always made me felt like family.

Aunty Sheila's love for life and her favorite words "fight a good fight and do not give up," will remain with me forever. I will be forever grateful for her love and kindness that she showed me. 

May God grant her eternal rest and peace. You will remain in our hearts for ever. With love.

Aunty Sheila was one of the first people in my life who always treated me like family. I never felt like anything other than her "true" grandchild in the way she cared for me. I will always remember her faith, the way she woke up early to sing and worship, and how she always made sure I was taken care of, no matter what that looked like.  Her kindness and care shaped me more than she probably ever knew. The way I move through the world as an adult carries pieces of her with it. I will always hold her close to my heart.

Sheila Yhap, whom I grew up calling “Cousin Sheila,” for as long as I can remember, was more than a neighbor to me! I knew her from the time I knew myself as a child growing up in our small village of Domburg, Wakenaam. 
     To my parents and family she was truly family to us. You were a dear friend whom we truly loved because of your warmth and giving spirit. 
     Your kindness to everyone in our community made our neighborhood a true close-knit family oriented community. I will always remember and cherish the moments spent with you and the memories and lessons of life you have left behind! 
     Now that you are no longer with us, I will remember our chats and the many lessons in life you have taught me!   
     Cousin Sheila, I will forever miss your warmth, willingness to share, advice on matters of the heart and your readiness to freely offer thoughts of encouragement! I will truly miss your generous spirit.

Condolence to the Yhap and Bridgemohan families on the passing of Lillian ‘Sheila’ Yhap, 1939-2026, who will be remembered as a pillar of strength, courage and determination to her family and to those who knew and interacted with her. She was someone who was fiercely protective of her loved ones and literally directed the growth and development of her family. 
 I remember Cousin Sheila, as we all called her, from the time I was a young lad when she and her husband, Evan ‘Buddy’ Yhap,  came and lived next door to us in the tiny village of Domburg in Wakenaam, Essequibo Islands, Guyana. 
Today, I am truly saddened by this loss but I am also thankful for having known her over the many years of my life.
