On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, Shih Lien Tu went home to Jesus at the age of 82 after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer. Shih Lien known to many friends as Cindy was born May 17 in Taichung, Taiwan.
After graduating from high school with top honors and scholarships for further advanced collegiate studies Cindy, being the oldest in her family, made the ultimate sacrifice to step into the role of the main financial provider for her parents when her father fell ill and was unable to provide for his family. Taking her first job at Hua Nan Bank, along with her sister, she earned a living to support her parents and three younger brothers. Her hard work paid off as she saw her father’s health improve, going from being bed-ridden to walking about freely.
Cindy met and married the love of her life, Ken in 1968 and shortly saw her family grow with the addition of Julie and Tina. Not long after Tina’s birth, the family left the comfort of a familiar homeland, family and friends to start anew in Brooklyn, NY.
Cindy was an exceptional wife and mother. She worked tirelessly alongside Ken through many entrepreneurial ventures including retail, scrap metal import/export, metals recycling, and real estate management. She also excelled at various different multi-level marketing sales ventures, earning top honors and high acclaim.
Cindy was energetic and passionate in all areas of her life. Regardless of how much she liked or disliked her work, she did it well. She had a strong sense of compassion and responsibility for her family and the greater Taiwanese community. She was an active participant in many Taiwanese civic groups, volunteered her time and support in the Taiwanese independence movement. She was hospitable and a remarkable cook, enjoying entertaining and cooking meals for all her guests. She was generous, saving the best of everything for everyone else. She liked giving gifts and never visited someone empty-handed.
Her kindness and enthusiasm for life was delightful and helped her develop lifelong friends everywhere she went. She will be dearly missed. Cindy is survived by her two daughters and their husbands Julie and Bill, Tina and Roy; and grandson Mark.
A memorial service for Shih Lien will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East Saint George Ave, Linden, NJ 07036.
