Tilmon Jerry Brown (known by most as Jerry) was born in New York City on July 8, 1940 to Gladys Jones and Tillman Grant Boone. As an infant, his mother Transported him to Brinkley Arkansas where he was adopted and raised by Izola Brown and her husband whom he always referred to as Mommy Brown. Growing up in Arkansas, Jerry was known as the errand boy as he absolutely loved helping people and giving back. His stories and reflections about being forced to get up at 5.00 a.m. for farm chores, getting ready for school and then work for the neighbors without pay were quite amusing yet intriguing. Jerry was also involved with his neighborhood church and learned his Sunday School lessons and adapted to living by his lessons learned well into his adult live as his love for Christ was deep in his humbleness and his outlook on things. He believed that it was his responsibility to always be kind to others and helpful to all. Jerry was known throughout his town as Red and that was because of his beautiful smile and welcoming cheerfulness. He attended Old Brinkley Junior High and Marion Anderson High school where he became a three-pointer basketball star and loved sports and to talk about the highlights of a good game.
During his time as a youth, Jerry was also a community activist and helped organize and raise money for a school gymnasium and new uniforms which was just one of his ways of giving back. His popularity and compassion earned him the title of class president. After graduation, Tilmon returned to New York to seek employment and start a new chapter where shortly after arriving, Jerry received notification of a college scholarship. So, Tilmon returns to Arkansas where attends Philander Smith College and earns a BS in Science and minor in Elementary Education. Reluctant to pursue teaching, Jerry joins the Army and masters Radio repair and wiring. Later he gets promoted to Sargent and joins the Airborne. He receives many accolades and cherishes his Army experience. Jerry was fortunate to land a job with Allied-Signal Aerospace Company (Bendix) where he worked for 23 years until the company relocated. Upon retirement from Bendix, Jerry became school bus driver and drove the yellow school bus for Station Wagon Bus Service for 25 years. Jerry was known for his commitment and was never late nor ever missed a day.
Tilmon achieved recognition as a 300 bowler and won many tournaments. His home base was Highway Bowl on rte. 22. Jerry loved life and thrived daily to add happiness to the life of others. Tilmon was a faithful member of Christ Church (Montclair) where he genuinely enjoyed worshiping the Lord. As many can attest, he was always smiling, joking and having fun. He loved children, family, travel, and people. His daughter called him: Mr. Sunshine and to his newfound family amongst us we called him JB, Uptown, or just simply Jerry. He was a true friend to all he encountered and a great family man to all those who came in to his life by way of his companion/ life partner Amy Scott and her 6 children and his biological daughter Tia Brown and grandsons Curtis Johnson, II and Bakari Kirks, stepdaughters Carolyn Hanks (George Hale), Lestine Scott, Annette Scott- Naylor, Kimberly Scott Hayden (Eric Hayden), stepsons, Leroy Hanks (Cecilia Hanks), Amin Hussain- El ( Yasmeen Hussain-El) and numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, in laws, nieces, nephews and extended family members who will truly miss him ever so as Jerry truly was the spice of life and we were so blessed to have him in this life and we rejoice that we will see him again in the afterlife. Rest well Jerry as your labor here on earth is over and you suffer no more as God has embraced you in his arms and your living shall not be in vain. We love you!
