He was born August 25, 1964 in Rahway, New Jersey to parents Sherman Clifford and Patricia (Lambert) Coburn. He was a graduate of Lisbon High School and a graduate of the University of Maine.
After high school Lee joined the U.S. Army as a member of the 11 Bravo Infantry and attained the rank of Sergeant after 10 years of service. He was especially proud to be awarded the Expert Infantryman Badge and earned a coveted Presidential coin from President Reagan for his security service. His other decorations and awards include the following, Army Commendation Medal (2 awarded), Army Lapel Button, Army Achievement Medal (3 awarded), Army Good Conduct Medal (2 awarded), National Defense Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and several Overseas Service Ribbons.
Upon leaving the military, Lee pursued a variety of jobs: he was a tractor trailer operator for 25+ years (with an accident-free record), an I.T. administrator, a firefighter, a pilot, a master diesel mechanic, among many others. He most recently fulfilled his lifelong dream of operating and owning a mechanic shop, Topsham Truck and Auto. This dream was lived for only one day before his passing.
Lee lived his life undeterred by circumstances that might have defeated a lesser man. Good was never good enough as he always strove to give and be his best. His skills were honed from years of hard work and hard knocks, whether he was sewing a satin homecoming dress, constructing a costume, or cooking eggrolls, he did it with confidence and enthusiasm.
He was eager to learn and unselfishly shared his insights, skills, knowledge, and thoughts. He had a soft side reserved for those closest to him. He was a great Dad and Grandfather and will be fondly remembered as a simple yet complex man with a huge, giving spirit. He did whatever he could to make everyone’s life better and he did it without restraint or complaint. Lee was a lion of a man- proud of his Scottish heritage, fiercely protective of his loved ones, and those fortunate enough to be part of his inner circle. We were all blessed by having him in our lives bringing his generosity, humor, honesty, intelligence, and loyal nurturing spirit.
To Carrie, Lee was her hero, protector, and confidant. He spoiled her thought-out their days together. She refers to him as Mr. Wonderful and will miss his hugs, laugh, and daily conversations about the future and all that they hoped for.
Lee is survived by his longtime “wife” Carinda (Carrie) Day, his son Albert “Lee” Coburn Jr. (wife Deana) and their children Lilliana and Rylie, his son Christopher Coburn (wife Casey) and their children Cameron, Caleb, and Cayden, his daughter Crystal Austin (husband Jeremy) and their sons Jake, Memphis, Evan, and Wade, and his youngest daughter Emma Lee Coburn. He also leaves behind a brother Dennis Coburn, and twin sisters Kim McLamb and Karen Higgins. He was predeceased by his parents, many aunts and uncles, along with his Aunt Gayle that he remembered with great fondness.
