

Falmouth- Belinda M. Thurlow 66, of Newell Brook Rd. Durham, died Sunday April 10, at Falmouth by the Sea, after battling several illnesses throughout the years. She was born in Brunswick, on October 18, 1949, a daughter of the late Ralph and Phyllis (White) Mains. She graduated from Freeport High school and then went on to, two more years of schooling. Belinda married her true love, Paul Thurlow on January 24, 1971. Belinda spent many years working in the insurance industry. She worked for the Salvation Army in Portland, G.A.B. Insurance, Cigna Health Insurance, Gosselin and Dubord, and Consumers for Affordable Health Care. During her lifetime, Belinda fought many battles. In 1977, she went into kidney failure and her mother donated a kidney to Belinda which lasted over 38 years, which is the longest lasting kidney transplant to date in Maine. She also survived many battles with breast and skin cancer, and several other health conditions. With all these setbacks thrown her way, she had the warmest soul and a smile that never stopped lighting up the room. She was a rock and a true inspiration to her family and friends. Her good nature, heart of gold and strength will live on for many years to come. Belinda loved camping and sitting by the fire around the presence of her family sharing memories. She also enjoyed crocheting and doing crafts, which mostly became gifts to many family members. Most of all she loved her children, grandchildren, spending time with them, and her dog Bell. She leaves her husband of 45 years Paul of Durham, her seven children: John Thurlow and his wife Linda of Windham, Thomas Thurlow of Windham, Owen Thurlow of Windham, Roland Thurlow and his wife Nancy of Durham, Stephanie Washburn and her husband Mike of Durham, Tonya Thurlow of Richmond and Paul W. Thurlow of Warren, a sister Cindy Blake and husband Mark of Durham, three brothers: Jeffrey Mains of Freeport, Kirk Mains and his longtime companion Robin of Windham, and Kevin Mains and his wife Cindy of Durham, many grandchildren, several great grandchildren and her longtime dear friend Brenda Richards of Brunswick. She was predeceased by a granddaughter Isabella Elaine Thurlow.
