TOPSHAM---Dean P. Cornish of Topsham passed away on September 7, 2019 after a short and determined battle against cancer. Dean was born in Wales, Maine on February 23, 1961, child of Roland and Lilyette (Bernier) Cornish, the father of Amy and Chad (mother Joanne Pratt), Samuel and Hannah (mother Madelyn Russell), and the grandfather of Ely and Cassidy Cornish. He is one of ten children: Bill (Denise), Jim, Rolanda, Maurice, Marie (deceased), John, Dale (Gabriele), Tony (Deborah), and Mark (deceased). He was very proud of his large family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dean grew up in Bowdoin and graduated from Mt. Ararat in 1979. He grew up as a young man working in the woods with his grandfather and uncles. He had various jobs including a tin knocker at BIW for several years, and while there he worked nights and weekends establishing his 30+ years in his established business, Earthgrooming Inc., working in the outdoors landscaping, bush hogging, rototilling, and clearing properties. He then received his arborist license and pursued his true love of climbing trees.

We just learned the sad news of Dean's passing. We first met Dean when we moved to Harpswell in 2006. He was such a friendly, honest and generous man and a pleasure to do business with. Just last year he took down some of our trees and as always he did a great job. Dean will be missed by many.

Dear Cornish family & friends,
I was very sorry to learn of Dean's passing. My memories of the Cornish family go back roughly at least 50 years. They were the family everyone on my road in Bowdoin knew. I remember so many moments and never forgot the memories of attending schools and bus rides with them. I share in your loss, and pray you will be blessed with strength in this difficult time.
My love and thoughts are with you all. 🌹

Dear Lilyett and family.
So very sorry of son passing away.

I met him only rarely but he comes from one Amazing family, so he, too, must have been a great and hard working man.

We, me and Mom send our condolences.
Love you always.

Paul and I were so saddened to hear about Dean’s passing. He was a gentleman of kindness and knowledge, a conservationist who loved the land and blessed those he talked with. We will miss his gentle ways and woodsman wisdom. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

We will miss Dean not just because he’s done our tree work for 25 years, but also because he was such a down-to-earth, friendly person. We saw him often on our road, and had many conversations over the years, so we felt we got to know him. We want his children to remember that he had a powerful work ethic. He didn’t take many breaks; he worked hard until the job was done. He was in such demand that he had to prioritize requests, but he was also responsive. When a storm dropped a tree on our garage and electric wires, he was here that night. We knew he would deal with us fairly. Although we cannot attend his service, we offer our sincere condolences to his family.

Dean was our kind and thoughtful friend for many, many years . We treasure the "wooden surprises" he has so often left for us to discover . It has been such a joy to have him, Samuel, Hannah and Carol as friends . We will miss him very much ! We are thinking of them and the rest of his family .
In fond rememberance,

Cathie and I are both stunned and sad to hear of Dean’s passing. We send our prayers for comfort and relief for the family. He was way too young. Dean has always been a kind, caring and hard-working person. We’ve always enjoyed our interactions with him even though brief and will miss him.

Dean helped out on the farm a couple times and I saw him out about quite often at the farmers market and at school functions. He was always kind, knowledgeable and a true gentleman. He will be sorely missed in our community.

What a shock, I feel terrible for his family. I have known Dean and his family for many many years and I have always been very fond of him, just not a nicer all around guy out there. My thoughts and prayers go out to his children and his family 😭
