
BRUNSWICK: Elizabeth “Bette” Hilton, 95, formerly of Litchfield passed away peacefully Sunday evening at the Horizons Living and Rehabilitation Center in Brunswick surrounded by her family. She was born on May 10, 1919 in Troy, ME a daughter of the late Fred and Ethel (Pierce) Bagley. She graduated from Unity High School and attended Farmington State Teachers College. She married Maurice G. Hilton of Waldoboro on October 16, 1938. During the war she worked in a small munition factory while Maurice was in the service. He served overseas for a year. Upon his return, they moved to Danville and then to Litchfield in 1949. They both joined the Litchfield Community Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as a substitute organist. Maurice served as deacon for many years. In 1976 when Oak Hill High School opened, the superintendent asked Bette and her friend to open the kitchen. She worked there for many years. She and Maurice had a poultry farm in Litchfield where they sold eggs there and in Lewiston. They eventually sold the farm and both became real estate brokers. After her retirement she did a lot of volunteer work putting in 5000 hours at the nursing home care unit in Togus. She was very active in the Litchfield Church food bank. She was a member of Litchfield Grange, a past matron of Mystic chapter #69 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the West Gardiner Senior Citizens. She is survived by her four children; Gregory and his wife Sandy of Litchfield, Rebecca and her husband Paul Pellegrini of Litchfield, Glenn and his wife Cathy of Gibsonia, PA and Barbara and her husband Ken Underhill of Jackson, NJ as well as seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, a sister and four brothers. At her request, there will be no services. However, those wishing, in lieu of flowers, may make a charitable contribution in Bette’s memory to a charity of choice.
