LISBON FALLS: Elsie M. Sullivan, 91, of Lisbon Falls passed away peacefully at her home on September 23, 2016. She was born in Waterville on December 9, 1924 a daughter of the late Alcide and Marie (Auclair) Beauchemin. She grew up in the Waterville area and attended local schools there. She was a graduate of Waterville High School, class of 1942. Shortly after that Elsie met and married Walter Sullivan in Waterville and they started a family together.
Not long after their marriage, they moved to Lisbon Falls and permanently resided there. Elsie’s long time career was working for the Town of Lisbon in different capacities, including 11 years as Town Clerk. She worked for the town for 21 years. During that time she had met many people and made many friends along the way. Elsie was very loyal, dedicated, hard-working and personal. She retired in 1986. At her surprise retirement party, more than 150 people turned out to honor her with several speakers to roast her. This was a night which was often looked back upon and talked about by her and others with very fond memories.
Elsie will always be remembered for being fun loving, smart and living her life to the fullest while enjoying her independence right up until her final moments. Her granddaughter referred to her as a “rolling stone gathering no moss”. She was also very understanding, considerate and helpfully kind to others. An exciting time for Elsie was when she was honored one year as the Moxie Parade Marshall. Another was when in 2012 she went flying on a small plane for the first time with her daughter and son-in-law.
In addition to her loving to spend time with her family and friends, Elsie enjoyed reading, playing cards, dining out, shopping and looking for bargains, watching her beloved New England sports like the Patriots and Red Sox, attending various community events and her Thanksgiving Chinese Auctions that brought the family joy and laughter. She will be greatly missed by many.
She is survived by her two daughters; Marcia and her husband Randy Lawton of Durham along with their children Maranda and Brittany and Tama and her husband Gary Drown of Newry along with a son, Scott. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Elsie’s wonderful, dear friends and neighbors who always looked out for her and watched over her so that she could stay in her home.
