Jean was born in Lisbon Falls on April 12, 1924, the daughter of the late Leon and Lorena (Lacy) Buker. She attended Lisbon Falls schools and graduated from Lisbon Falls High School. She then attended Auburn Maine School of Commerce for a year.
In 1944, during WW2, Jean served in the US Navy. She served in Washington, DC until discharged in 1946. At the time of her discharge, she received the American Campaign and the Navy good conduct medals.
On August 19, 1950, Jean married Harry J. Cornish, Jr., who passed away on May 29, 2003.
She was an active member of the Lisbon Falls Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was president of the White Cross and Treasurer of the church. She also taught Sunday School, taught and helped in Vacation Bible School, was chairman of the Forever Young and the 150th Anniversary Committee. She was also the Vice President for the Gideons International Auxiliary for the state.
Other things Jean enjoyed were doing cross stitch, making crafts from wood and traveling in a camper that she and her husband owned. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Deborah Cornish, of Freeport, TX; her granddaughter, Lorena Chapman, of Freeport, TX; her grandsons, Shawn Cornish and wife Tonya of Lewiston, ME and Stephen Cornish and wife Debbie, of Lewiston, ME; five great grandchildren and a great-great grandson. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Betty, who lives in Florida, plus nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harry J. Cornish, Jr.; her son, Robert Cornish, who passed away on 09/07/2022; and brother-in-law, Herbert Cornish.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at the Lisbon Falls Baptist Church, 555 Lisbon Street, Lisbon Falls, ME. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm at the church. Burial in Pleasant View Cemetery, Durham will be in the spring.
