John Lester Ridley, 85 and beloved husband of Peggy Ridley, passed away peacefully at his home in Lisbon, Maine on Sunday March 24th after a short illness. He as born on August 14, 1938 to Avis and John Ridley being 1 of 14 children.
A lifelong resident of Lisbon, John will always be remembered for the twinkle in his eye and his easy smile that made many a stranger an instant friend. The twinkle in the eye appears to be a family heirloom passed on to all his grandchildren.
Self-employed in the roofing and siding business for many years, he then retired to his farm and tinkered on his many antique tractors.
Over the years as husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather he led by example with love and encouragement. With a big heart, he was always a defender and advocate of the underdog. John was also an avid reader and self-taught historian that had done extensive research on the family tree always highlighting the Ridley name in historical context.
John leaves behind his wife of 63 years Margaret “Peggy” Ridley the love of his life who cared for him so tenderly in his last days. His children Kevin, Janis and Todd, Grandchildren Chris, Kevin, Angela, Michelle, Ashely, Buddy, Benjamin, Michael, Leah, Kate and Nick. Great Grandchildren Damien, Haylee, Ridley, Parker, Eloise, Eliza, Grace, Allie, Liam, Brooks, Jake and Rose.
John’s Mother, and Father John and Avis Ridley raised a big beautiful family. His siblings in order of birth are Leonard, Ethyl, Lillian, Shirley, Beatrice, John, Phyliss, Beverly, Eva, Linda, Betty, Gene, George, and Raymond.
There will be a celebration of life for immediate family at a time yet to be determined.
