

TOGUS: Philip Amie Roy, Sr., 92, of Lisbon Falls passed away peacefully at the Togus VA Center on May 27, 2016. He was born in Lisbon a son of Alcide and Eleanor (Bouchard) Roy and raised in Caribou. As the 20th of 22 children, he was the last to pass away. As an Army Ranger, he survived the D-Day landings and as a POW in German prison camps. On his return to Lisbon Falls he married Barbara Rioux in November of 1945. His work in the community varied from part time mail delivery, a local bakery, dry cleaners, woolen mill, supervisor and general contractor. He opened a recreation center and later owned the local bowling alley providing a safe haven for local youth. He was a dedicated John Wayne fan and enjoyed puzzles and games, especially cribbage, with friends and family. On December 18, 2014, the 70th anniversary of being captured during the Battle of the Bulge, he was awarded his high school diploma from Greely High School in Cumberland, ME. Phil is survived by his sons; Philip A. Roy, Jr. of No. Miami Beach, FL, Ronald P. Roy of Mystic, CT. Richard R. Roy of Topsham and Patrick A. Roy and his daughters; Barbara A. Dube of Lewiston, Theresa A. Ellis of Clayton, NC and Linda J. Roy of Lewiston. He was also blessed with 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Anne Roy. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the doctors and staff at Patriots Place in Togus for their wonderful care and compassion. Visitation will be held on Thursday June 2, 2016 from 10-11am at Holy Trinity Church 67 Frost Hill Ave. Lisbon Falls, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 11am also at the church. Committal prayers will follow with military honors at Calvary Cemetery in Lisbon Falls.
