

LISBON FALLS: Ramona A. Naragon, 65, of 6 Hope St., Lisbon Falls, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 27. She was born in Norway, Maine to the late Helen C. Letourneau and Harvey L. Verrill. She received her education at Lisbon High School, Class of 1969, and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Maine. Mona retired after 20 years of military service in the Air Force and Air National Guard as a career recruiter in 1994. Highly decorated with 7 personal awards and 14 service medals including 3 for Meritorious Service. She continued her service for our country as an advocate for all military personnel serving over 30 years with the American Legion. Rising first to Post Commander of American Legion Post 158 in Lisbon, Maine. In 1999 she was elected as State Commander, and after holding various other positions as a Legionnaire she became the first woman to be elected to the National Executive Committee in 2015. Mona had many circles of enduring friendships throughout her life. She and her husband Tom became particularly close to a group of their American Legion family who called themselves "The Mag 10.” Together they celebrated happy times and supported each other through tough times, a bond that will be remembered and treasured.
Ramona is survived by her sister Pam of Elgin, AZ, son Richard of Otisville, NY, step-sons Michael of McKenney, VA, Mark of Baldwinsville, NY, Matthew and his wife Susan of Stafford, VA, three granddaughters Jessica, Jennifer, and Jasmyne, a great-grandson George, a niece Sherry and her husband Richard of Lisbon, ME, and nephew Kevin and his wife Matina of Lisbon, ME. She was pre-deceased by her husband Tom and her sister Deborah.
Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 6:00-8:00PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church 496 Lisbon St. Lisbon Falls on Friday October 21, 2016 at 10:00AM. Committal prayers with full military honors will take place at 2 PM, also on Friday, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd, Augusta, ME.
