In a rare and beautiful testament to true love, Don and Agnes Tabor passed away just eight days apart, at ages 87 and 86, after more than 70 years together. Their lives were intertwined from the very beginning—sweethearts since middle school, married for seven decades, and seldom apart throughout their remarkable journey.
Don dedicated his working life to Chicago Tribune, beginning his career as a pressman at just 16 years old. Agnes, whose ambition and drive knew no bounds, built a thriving salon from the ground up, becoming a successful businesswoman without ever attending college. Even after retirement, she continued to reinvent herself, earning her real estate license at age 65 and launching an entirely new career.
They were united not only by love, but by resilience, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to family. Don and Agnes were preceded in death by their beloved son, Mark Tabor.
They are survived by their daughter, Karen Heizer; grandchildren Kathy Kohr (Chris), Lynne Kostakis (Chris), Houston Heizer (Kim), and Donny Heizer; and six cherished great-grandchildren, Ella, Julianna, Jonathan, Isabelle, Adeline, and Henry. They are also survived by Lil Satka, a dear and devoted friend to them both.
Though their passing came days apart, their story remains one life, one love, and one legacy—forever together.
Visitation for both Donald & Agnes will be on Saturday, January 10, from 3-8 PM at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave, Lisle, IL 60532. Interment will be private.
