Steven Hurley passed away peacefully in his home (Romeoville) surrounded by family on January 4, 2026 at the age of 57. Steve fought many medical battles throughout his life including blood disorders and dementia, but we will choose to remember his best self. He was a son, brother, husband, a father, a coach, a role model, a friend, and a genuinely good-hearted person. He was born on February 2, 1968 in Melrose Park, IL to his surviving parents Wally and Patricia Hurley.
Steve loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with his family. He enjoyed boat rides, water skiing, fishing, and most often just “taking a dip” in the lake. The lake was his happy place. He would spend as much of the summer as he possibly could at the lake.
Steve had a claim to being Bruce Springsteen’s number one fan. If he wasn’t listening to “The Boss” it was probably because the Cubs or the Blackhawks were playing. A die-hard fan, he stuck with his teams when they were at their worst, and celebrated them when they were at the top.
More than anything, Steve loved his family. Carrie was his best friend – no comparison. He could spend hours talking about baseball with his son Brian, and he was the only person allowed to call Becca, “Becky”. Steve also shared a deep bond with his two miniature schnauzers, Nala and Ollie. They took walks together, naps together, and just relaxed together in the backyard. The kindness he showed those dogs were a perfect reflection on how he treated people.
Steve was a very kind and loving person, with a sense of humor that made him endearing to others.
He is survived by his loving family; wife, Carrie Hurley (nee Abbate); son, Brian Hurley; daughter, Rebecca “Becca” Hurley; parents, Wallace and Patricia (nee Montano); brother, Ken and wife Sue; sister-in-laws, Julie Rebholz and Dina Moroney; nieces/nephews, Melissa, David, Katlyn, Conor, Sean, Kyle, Liam, Alyssa, and MacKenzie.
A casual memorial service celebrating Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, between 9 AM – 1 PM at Blake Lamb Funeral Home; 5015 Lincoln Ave, Lisle, IL. We invite all knew and loved Steve to join us in honoring his memory.
