Chester E. Bates, 82, of North Little Rock, died August 10, 2016. Born August 12, 1933 in Lonoke County, Arkansas, he was the son of Benjamin F. and Ellie Chambers Bates. A past alderman for the City of North Little Rock, Mr. Bates retired from Havertys Furniture after 43 years of service. He enjoyed farming at his farm in Scott. Preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Annette Bates, and a brother C. Thomas Bates, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Linda Wilson Bates; a daughter, Deborah Goodnight of Scott, Arkansas; two sons, Gene Bates of Scott and Phillip Bates of North Little Rock; three brothers, Ben Bates of Florida, Neil Bates of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Fred Bates of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Jessica, Jeff, Misty, Katelynn, Matthew, Brad and Lea; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Macey, Seth, Camron, Madison, Rylie, Kaebra, Cheyenne and Tucker. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas or Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Rose City Church of the Nazarene, 4611 Lynch Drive, North Little Rock, AR 72117 with Rev. Otis Chapman officiating. Entombment will follow in Rest Hills Mausoleum.
