Loise Carpenter Baxter Mar 9, 1915 – Dec 4, 2014 LITTLE ROCK – Loise M. Carpenter Baxter, 99, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 of natural causes. Loise was born on March 9, 1915, in Bluffton, AR to Willis Aven and Viola V (Watson) Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, 1 brother and 2 children, Willis Ed Baxter and Mary Baxter Christy. On February 18, 1935, at the Little Rock Court House, Loise Carpenter married Elbert R Baxter, who also preceded her in death in 1980. Surviving are her grandchildren: Mike Christy of Gatesville (TX), Jeff and Scott Christy both of Ontario, CA. Steve Baxter of North Little Rock, AR Sharon Baxter Santistevan of Austin, TX and Chris Baxter of Cabot, AR and daughter-in-law Ann Baxter of Little Rock. Also surviving are numerous great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Loise lived at home in Little Rock until her passing on Thursday. She was a member of Lifeway Baptist Church in Little Rock and believed her greatest legacy was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She lit up a room with her smile the moment they walked into the room. With a deep love for children and family, her Church and Razorback Basketball, among the family she was best known for her amazing work in the kitchen. What a cook! She always remembered everyone’s favorite food; strawberry cake, lemon squares, fried chicken and French silk coconut pie. We’re not sure how long since Steve ate floured raw okra, but rest assured she had the candy dish full of his favorite orange slice candies. Loise had a sweet soul who never judged anyone’s life choices; she just welcomed everyone with open arms, even those who married into the family called her Grandma or Mama or even Gigi. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Griffin-Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th Street, Little Rock with a celebration service to follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Freddy Parker presiding. Burial will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, AR.
