Virginia Lois Geater Lowry, 87, transitioned peacefully under hospice care on January 29, 2016 in Little Rock, AR. Virginia was born on August 19, 1928 in Little Rock to Terry Thomas Geater and Velma Lois Blackstock Geater. The oldest of four children, Virginia was an active tomboy who enjoyed horseback-riding, bowling and all manner of available activities. As a young woman, following her graduation from Central High School in Little Rock, Virginia worked in banking and loved her job, which she kept until her marriage on September 15, 1964 to Walter Lowry. Following years as a truck-driver, Walter took up the training and racing of horses and the couple spent many years traveling all over the country to race at multiple courses until Walter’s declining health brought their wanderlust to an end. Virginia then found part-time employment as a product demonstrator, working in Wal-Mart and Sam’s stores in Little Rock and Benton into her 80s. Following her husband’s death in 1997, Virginia continued to live alone - stubbornly insisting on mowing her own grass - until 2012 when her health forced her to move into assisted living at Four Seasons Residential Health Care Center in Benton, AR. There, she made many friends and continued with her legendary, wicked good luck at Bingo! During her lifetime, there was no puzzle that Virginia couldn’t tackle! She loved to spend hours piecing together picture puzzles and attacking crossword puzzles. She even began reading the dictionary from beginning to end in a valiant attempt to grow her vocabulary! These activities lessened and finally ended due to advancing dementia. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter Quentin Lowry, three siblings: Terry Lou Geater Osment of Forrest City, AR; Thomas Geater of Perry AR; William Geater, former resident of the globe; and one nephew: Thomas Olin Geater of Perry, AR. Virginia is survived by sister-in-law, Betty Geater, of Perry, AR; three nephews: Tracy Geater, also of Perry, Tony Geater of Dover, AR and Michael Boudreaux of Lynchburg, VA. She is survived by one niece, Terry Lynn Boudreaux, (whom she named before her sister - and mother of the child, Terry Lou - emerged from general anesthetic), and her husband, David Tolley, of Galveston, TX. She is also survived by numerous cousins, one of whom, Mrs. Judy Parson, was blessedly by her side during her last hours on this planet. A graveside farewell for Virginia will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd at 2:00pm at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 17201 Arch Street, Little Rock, AR 72206. All are welcome!
