Little Rock, Arkansas — Walter Taylor Clements, I, age 78, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, to be with his Lord. Born on February 10, 1948, in Little Rock, he remained a lifelong resident of the city he loved.
A 1967 graduate of Hall High School, Walter built his life around hard work, integrity, and deep personal connections. He began working alongside his father doing tile work as a teenager before discovering his true calling in the shoe business. Starting as a helper at Paul’s Shoes in the late 1960s, he went on to purchase Whit’s Shoes on Asher Avenue. In time, he opened Walter’s Red Wing Shoes on Geyer Springs Road, where he proudly served the community for more than 40 years. With over six decades in the industry, Walter became a beloved fixture in Little Rock. He had a remarkable gift for making friends with everyone — from customers to the mail man and anyone in between. Kind, genuine, and warm-hearted, Walter was one of those rare souls whose presence brightened any room.
A man of many talents and hobbies, Walter loved building things with his hands, riding motorcycles, restoring cars, flying model airplanes, woodworking, photography, dancing, and enjoying good music. Above all, he was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ and drew strength and comfort from his faith throughout his life.
He is survived by his sons, Walter Clements II and Keith Clements; his former wife and lifelong friend, Diane Clements; his grandson, Walter Clements III; his brother, Bill Clements III and wife Virginia; sister-in-law Shirley Clements; Uncle George Clements and Aunt Donna Clements; nephews Billy Clements IV, Jarrett Clements, and Bobby Clements II; nieces Laura Beth Clements and Shannon Clements; cousin Angela Jegley and her husband Larry Jegley; and a wide circle of loving family and cherished friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, William Clements II and Carel Clements; his brother, Robert Clements; and his Uncle Drew Clements.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home on 12th Street in Little Rock, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m.
