Born in Hackensack on October 5, 1938, Allan was the beloved son of Miriam (Mary) and Theodore Kreitzman. He was the youngest of four siblings and was predeceased by his sisters, Claire and Muriel, and his brother, Ira.
Allan grew up in Newark, New Jersey, and graduated from Weequahic High School. As a teenager, he worked at a funeral home just down the street from his home Goldstickers Funeral Home, a job that sparked his lifelong career in the funeral industry. He became a respected Jewish funeral director, initially in Elizabeth, NJ, at Kreitzman’s Memorial Home, and later in Livingston at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman, where he served the community for over 25 years.
In 1988, Allan met the love of his life, Barbara, and they married, beginning a beautiful second chapter together. Their shared passion for travel took them across the globe, creating memories that lasted a lifetime. Some of their favorite destinations included Italy, Prague, Israel, Russia, and Cuba. Back home, they loved walking the streets of NYC often ending their day at Zabars.
Throughout his life, Allan was deeply committed to service. A member of the Masons since 1963, he later became a Shriner, embodying a spirit of giving and community involvement. In the 1980s, he proudly served as President of Jewish Family Services of Union County and, more recently, as a trustee on the Board of Temple B’nai Jeshurun.
Known for his impeccable style, sharp wit, and love of adventure. A lover of the sun, he always sported a tan and enjoyed spending his time at his home in Florida with some of his best friends. He also had a passion for gaming, frequenting Las Vegas and Atlantic City, where he spent many happy days.
Allan is survived by his two children, Shari Gershenfeld (Steve) and Todd Kreitzman; his two stepdaughters, Alyssa Reiter (Mark Chase) and Michelle Barishaw (Scott); and his eight grandchildren, Louis Bove, Andrew Bove, David, Samantha, Tyler, Jason, Ethan, and Jared.
He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend, a man whose generosity, humor, and zest for life touched everyone who knew him. May his memory be a blessing.
The family will be receiving guests for Allan on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 10:15 AM to 10:45 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
