Arlene Green, 79, of Pompton Plains passed away peacefully on March 8, 2022. Born in Newark and raised in Irvington, she was the daughter of Dorothy (Fruchtbaum) and Max Wolff. Arlene lived most of her life in Union, raising her children, Jodi and Michael, with her loving husband of 54 years, Daniel.
She graduated from Irvington High School in 1960 and Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) in 1964. In college, she was a member of Zeta Tau Sigma sorority. Arlene graduated, as a member of Kappa Delta Pi, with a Master of Arts Degree from Kean College of New Jersey (now Kean University) in 1982. Arlene worked as a teacher, starting in the Irvington school district and ending her 39-year career in the Union school district. She met her lifelong love, Dan, at the Newark Ski Club. They spent many happy years weekending with lifetime friends at their vacation home in Vermont. When she retired from teaching, she joined Dan, volunteering with the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills (VNA) at their twice-yearly rummage sale, eventually becoming the head of the Office Department. In addition to her volunteering, she had a love of mahjong, playing as often as she could, as well as being an avid bowler. She also loved playing scrabble both online and across the table with her dear friend of 52 years, Anne.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dan, her adoring daughter, Jodi, her loving son, Michael and his wife Rochelle, along with her 3 beloved grandchildren, Benjamin, Mikayla and Caleb. She was predeceased by her sister, Sharon Sachs (nee Wolff) and her brother-in-law, Roger Sachs. She leaves behind her brother, Joel Wolff, nieces and nephews and many close friends that were more like family to her.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 13 at 11:00am EDT at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Funeral Home, located at 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ.
