Dr. Burton David Cohen

Burton David Cohen, 76, of Scotch Plains, NJ passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Dr. Cohen lived in Westfield, NJ for many years before moving to Scotch Plains 25 years ago.

Dr. Cohen graduated Brooklyn College of Pharmacy in 1963 and then received his D.M.D from the New Jersey College of Dentistry in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 at the U.S. Army Hospital in Ft. Ord, CA until his honorable discharge as a Captian. He was a member of the American Dental Association, NJ Dental Association, and Hudson County Dental Association. He was also a Dental Consultant for the Jersey City Head Start Program and the Bayonne Head Start Program. He taught for many years at UMDNJ, and was a senior partner of the Bayonne Dental Group for 49 years.

Dr. Cohen was devoted to and was directly involved with many philanthropic organizations during his lifetime, as well as being active with Veteran’s organizations.

Dr. Burton Cohen was the Beloved husband for the past 11 years of Cheryl Cohen; loving father of Dr. Steven C. Cohen and his wife Katie and Richard Cohen and his wife Lauren; step-father of David Asarnow and his wife Jen, Dawn fox and her husband Chris, and Jeff Asarnow and his wife Sheryl; devoted grandfather of Emily, Lexi, Avery, Peyton, Logan, Asher, and step grandchildren Maddie, Josh, Jules, Zachary and Emory; cherished brother of Sharon Gruby and her husband Michael.
