My regrets to the Burke family.  Dennis will be remembered for his friendly ways. 
I knew he and Sharon from NJN/IBM days, later Scranton.  Great guy.  Sorry to have found this out late.  Watched services and was touched by family remarks. Thanks for sharing.

Dennis was an amazing guy and a great friend to us and so many other people.  It is hard to come up with one memory when there are so many.  The 4 of us, Shar, Sue, Den and I spent a memorable day on Lake Tahoe.  Dennis was the captain and he piloted our rented motorboat to Emerald Bay.  We dropped anchor and had a wonderful afternoon of sunning, joking and vodka.  Lots of laughs!  That was the MO of our relationship.  We really miss him.

I have many fond memories of Dennis throughout my work career with IBM and ESSEXTEC. He proved to be a caring friend and mentor while working with him to provide technical support to our customers. He was always supportive to me with his quiet humor and great insight.

My years with ESSEXTEC were very special as they gave me the opportunity to once again work with Dennis and Jim Torney, and several others of my previous team members from IBM. Dennis will definitely be missed by me and so many others because of the positive impact he made in our lives and careers.

I’m another of the many who were so lucky to have Dennis as a manager and mentor early in their work careers. Boy, was I a project, but incredibly patient Dennis stuck with me and did his best to sand off my rough edges. His guidance and support made a fundamental difference not only in my work but also in my personal life.

I left IBM over 40 years ago to work at and eventually start small businesses. But due to Dennis’s outsized impact on my life, every time I spoke with him over the decades, I always called him what I did back in the early 80s: “Boss.”

Sharon and family, thoughts and prayers.

I met Dennis in 1989/1990 as the Regional Manager for XL/Datacomp.  I was a recent hire from IBM in Rochester, NY.  So began the journey.

 Dennis would come up to Rochester and stay at the Delmonte Inn in Pittsford, NY.  I would pick him up in the early morning, take him to the gym and then begin a full  day of customer calls.

Fast forward years later and I join Dennis and Jim  at Essextec.  The journey continues.

Still living in Rochester, I traveled often to our offices in NJ and then NYC for most of the week.  Life on the road is lonely and Dennis took me to dinner or had me come over to the house.  

St Patrick’s Day,  I was either raising beers with Dennis/Jim, or Sharon would invite me over for Jewish Corn Beef and Cabbage.  Sharon that was the best and you made me feel right at home.  Had to sleep over more than once.  

Dennis, you were friend first, but also one heck of a mentor.  Always calm in the face of turbulence.  Steady hand on the  rudder.  

Wish I had reached out as often as you did to me, just to talk and catch up on family, etc.

I had the privilege of working for Dennis and Jim Torney for 12 years, from 2001 to 2013. Prior to that I had started out as an IBM salesman, taking early retirement after 27 years. Then I spent another 14 years in non-descript jobs before joining Essex. 

So IBM and Essex provided good and successful bookends to my working career, thank goodness! 

Dennis and Jim provided strong leadership that helped make Essex successful for me. And Dennis had a sense of humor, to boot. 

He will be missed.

What a kind, smart and special man Dennis was.  I had the privilege of getting to know Dennis as Essextec's IBM representative.  I love the sense of family and community that Dennis and Jim worked so hard to build at Essextec.  While I was not an employee, I was always made to feel like part of the Essextec family.  Dennis always made the time to ask how I was doing, or how my family was doing.   I am very lucky to have known him and had the opportunity to learn and grow through knowing him.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Sharon and your family.

Sharon and family, my deepest condolences to you.  I hope you take some comfort in knowing that a lot of people were touched by Dennis in their lives.  He was a positive force in my life professionally and personally.  Initially through XL/Datacomp and then through the start up days of Essextec and eCap.

DB a.k.a. Big Kahuna, I made you laugh during my interview in 1997, and I think that's why you hired me.  You were always kind, sincere, and supportive.   I always felt I could tell you anything.   I learned a lot from you.  Cash is King.  Murders Row.  You can place an order when it's written on the back of a cocktail napkin and approved with a handshake.  Those were the days.  You will be missed.  The General.

Some of the best years at my life were spent at Essextec with Dennis. He was always kind and respectful to me and I truly appreciated it. I am sad to see him go. Rest well Dennis.

Dennis was a great cousin who always took an interest in my career.  When I started at Xerox, he bought a copier from me. I always appreciated seeing him on New Years Day and glad we stayed in touch over the years. God bless.

Dennis hired me out of college to work for him and join his sales team at IBM.  He was the first mentor I had in my business career and a lasting influence as both a friend and inspiration in my life.    You could not ask for a better manager to learn from - someone who knew how to handle every situation appropriately - and someone who you could talk with just as easily about life situations as you could business situations.   He was genuine and he cared.   We had an incredibly strong sales team in those days  with a lot of incredibly capable colleagues, and he was a classic leader, a legendary seller,  who taught us all so much that we could take with us for the rest of our careers.   40+ years later and I still miss those days working closely with him and our team.   So many nice and lasting memories.   So many stories to make you smile.   He will be truly missed as a mentor and a friend.

I was a struggling 23-year-old IBM sales rep when the branch manager stopped at my desk and said, “You just need a good coach. You’re going to like the new manager I hired. He starts next month.” Well, that manager was Dennis. Like many others, he mentored me with a caring and humorous nature. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would have such a great ride together, becoming business partners and, more importantly, friends. I am grateful that he came into my life. I miss you, Dennis. Thank you for all you did for me and all the others in your life.

My best friend of almost 70 years since our days in high school in Baltimore. We hung together, shared living quarters, played sports, skied basketball football. Double dated, and fixed each other up with dates. Were best men at each other’s weddings. Brought you into  IBM back in the very early days which solidified our business relationship for almost 60 years and  where you met Sharon and I met Emilia as well. Vacationed together. So many great memories! It’s hard to express how important you were to me over these years. I will miss you greatly.
