Doris Ewald Autrey, 90 years of age, went to be with her Savior on November 7, 2017, in Dallas, TX. She was born on March 27, 1927, in Jersey City, NJ, to the proud parents of Henry and Anna Ewald.
Doris met her husband Gregory Autrey before her senior year in college. She graduated from Drew University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1949, and she and Greg were married on September 10, 1949. Doris and Greg had three children while living in New York and New Jersey. They finally settled in their dream home in Gladstone, NJ, in 1971. They moved to Garland, TX following Greg’s retirement in 1985. Doris and Greg loved to travel and went all over the world. Doris continued to travel after Greg’s passing in 1997. She visited Tibetan monks and walked parts of the Great Wall of China. She enjoyed various regional wines in the Tuscan Valley, petted reindeer in Finland, cruised down the Baltic Sea, rode camels in the desert in Egypt and even survived a military coup while traveling. She told wonderful stories of the places she visited. She loved to have conversations with people, and there was never a person she met that she didn’t make into a friend. Her Lord was important to her, and she loved to lead people in Bible classes in her Ruth circles. She worked for H&R Block, sat on boards of numerous non-profit organizations, loved her cuisine groups, and played a mean hand of bridge.
Doris is survived by her daughter Pamela Autrey and husband Mitch Womble, son Richard Autrey and wife Angie, daughter Debra Bock and husband David; grandchildren Adam Bock and wife Erica, Joshua Autrey and wife Brittni, Mitchell Autrey, Nicholas Bock, and Allison Autrey Singleton and husband Hayes; and her two great granddaughters Maci June Bock and Mary Hayes Singleton.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 12:30pm at Restland Memorial Park, 77 Deforest Ave, East Hanover, NJ 07936. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) at www.jdrf.com.
