Dr. Leonard Swimmer

Dr Leonard Swimmer passed away on July 19, 2022, at age 93. He was born in Newark NJ to Charles and Anna Swimmer. He was a proud graduate of Weequahic HS, and New York University for undergraduate and dental school.

Dr. Swimmer was a highly respected maxillofacial surgeon who maintained a practice in Irvington and Springfield, NJ for many years. He was on staff of Irvington General, St. Barnabas and Overlook Hospitals. After retiring from active practice, he served as a consultant for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

Dr. Swimmer is survived by his beloved wife, Iris Swimmer, sons, Douglas Swimmer (Honor) and Michael Swimmer (Cindy) and grandchildren Jake (Amanda), Jillian, and Jordana. He is also survived by his step-children, Daniel Melnick, David Melnick (Hillary), Deborah Melnick (Owen Nochimson), and Jeffrey Melnick (Rachel Rubin), and step-grandchildren Tasha Kramer-Melnick, Jaden Kramer Melnick, Jacob Rubin, Jessie Rubin and their respective partners.

Len’s greatest pleasure was spending time with his immediate and extended families. Treasured time at Long Beach Island, playing racquetball and tennis, swimming, dancing, and socializing brought great joy to his life.

Most of all, Len will be remembered as a gentleman and a true mensch.
