Dr. Eileen K. Jaffe

Dr. Eileen K. Jaffe, a woman of remarkable intellect and compassion, passed away at her home on June 15, 2023. She was 69 years old. She was a devoted mom, sister, and Bubbie whose love extended far beyond her immediate family. Eileen was a respected research scientist and professor in her field.

Born in Brooklyn, Eileen was raised with Jewish values of kindness, integrity, and intellectual curiosity. Her education continued at SUNY Cortland, University of Pennsylvania, and a postdoctoral position at Harvard University in the area of Biochemistry and Enzymology. She excelled in her area of research with unique perspectives and unwavering determination. Eileen's invaluable contributions to her field, such as the discovery of Morpheein protein functions, earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues worldwide. She was a prolific author and her extensive publications continue to push new research in her field.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Eileen found joy in Jewish communities and community choirs. Eileen was deeply committed to the works of Al-Anon, where she offered support and compassion to families affected by the disease of alcoholism.

Eileen Jaffe is survived by daughter Elizabeth (Michael) and granddaughter Nora, as well as her brother Larry (Barbra) Jaffe and sister Reva (Leonard) Rosenband. She will also be fondly remembered by extended family, friends, and colleagues who were touched by her kindness and wisdom. Together, they will cherish Eileen's memory and the impact she had on their lives.

Eileen was committed to charitable giving. She generously supported various causes close to her heart: fighting for global women’s equality, funding science education for young people, and progressing towards a just, peaceful, and sustainable world. In memory of Eileen Jaffe, contributions can be made to the American Friends Service Committee. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her spirit continue to inspire generations to come.

A graveside service for Eileen will be held Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Baron Hirsch Cemetery, 1126 Richmond Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10314. Following the graveside service will be a memorial service from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Congregation B'nai Israel, 40 Whitenack Road, Basking Ridge, New Jersey 07920.
