Elayne Lite, eternally 39, passed away on December 2nd in Atlanta, GA. A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Elayne was born in Newark and graduated from Weequahic High School and Newark State Teachers College. She lived the majority of her life in West Orange where she established herself as a pillar of the community, using her grace, wit and unmatched energy to impact the lives of so many around her. She taught second grade in Irvington and then in the West Orange School System for a combined 41 years. After retiring in 1997, she went on to volunteer at NJPAC in Newark for nearly two decades, proudly welcoming visitors to her hometown and making herself a part of the city's resurgence. She was a longtime member of B’nai Shalom in West Orange and was active in many community groups and organizations.
Elayne was the daughter of Max and Rose Stein and was predeceased by her husband, Sanford, and sister, Gladys Ross, all of blessed memory. She is survived by her sister, Pearl Fertell, children, Nancy Shuster (Frank), Robert Keith Lite (Merri), and Rick Lite (Lori), grandchildren, David, Tarin (Joel), Austin, Lauren, Zachary (Sarah) and Jemma, a beautiful great-granddaughter Ada, as well as many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
